Jet drive locked up?

Hello, I have a 96 Seadoo GTS. this problem started when I had a water leak in the tuned pipe that was pumping water into the hull of the ski. the hull had water 3/4 of the way up the battery and stalled when I docked it. then it would not restart, so I pulled the plugs and cranked it over, I got fuel/oil mix out as well as some water but that blew right out. this was a week or so ago. The ski was running OK up until that point, although it would have a hard start problem fairly often. what it did was just make a clicking sound. the starter would engage but not turn the engine over, I would hit the start button again and it would crank normally. since I had the pipe off of it for repair I went ahead and replaced the starter and battery. the starter now just bumps the motor over a little bit but will not crank it steadily. also I cannot turn the motor over by hand. I think the jet drive is possibly locked up? I have never had it apart for service in the 2 years I have owned it. do I have to remove the entire assembly to disconnect it from the engine so I can see if the engine starts? any thoughts? I don't think the engine locked up it did crank over before I took the pipe off of it. Thanks
 
Did you remove the plugs when trying to turn it over by hand? Are you 100% the battery, cables and grounds are good? And is it an aftermarket or oem starter?

NORMALLY... when the pump gives up... it locks from rust in the bearings. BUT... if there is somthing stuck in the pump... then it would be tight.


I'm going to point my finger at your old problem. If the ski was partly filled with water... the starter may have filled up too. In turn... it may not be very happy.

As above... pull out the spark plugs, and see how free it turns. Remember.. you are still turning over an engine... so it's not just going to spin "Free"... but there should be little resistance.


AND... test the battery. Put a meter on the terminals, and crank. If it's dropping below 11v... it may be time for a battery.
 
Thanks, the starter is a brand new aftermarket, and all of the cable connections were cleaned with wire brush and emery paper. I have the plus out and I can't turn it by hand.
