Is thia fixable?

If it was only the gelcoat it would be easy but there's also some fiberglass all ripped up and frayed. May be a little hard to see in the picture.

"lil oopsie" my azz.

Fiber glass repair is possible. Ask the local boat yard how many boats slide off the trailer and onto the ramp...before they hit the water...heh.

It's do-able...but dayum....what a year.

Home Depo has a fiberglass repair kit. that should do the trick. Might not look pretty butt it will get you back into the water with in 24 hrs

Ive noticed a pattern here, the only time someone has a problem, its caused by letting someone else ride it... Or we're all just too ashamed to admit it?? Lol

If this doesnt make sense ill rewrite it in the morning....

It makes perfect sense. Last year I let my friend ride it and the came up next a a docked pontoon and dinged it on one of the footwells. This year I let the future father in law ride it and he sucked up a rock costing me a wear ring and impeller. Next time I let him ride it he smashed it coming in a little hot and realizing that shutting it off is the worst thing you can do when trying to control a pwc. Mind you he isn't new at riding these things. I'm not too worried because its insured but it pisses me off because now I can't ride it.

Believe me this is it. Nobody rides it anymore.

I just took it to the dealer and they said its fixable. They are putting an estimate together and I already have contacted my insurance. Should be back in the water in a week or so.

Ouchie! What was he doing aiming for a trailer that wasn't yet in the water? It looks like it ran right up on the concrete boat ramp... am I wrong?

That's a defninite "oopsie" but there ain't nothing "little" about it. This isn't a do-it-yourself repair unless you have professional experience at repairing fiberglass... let the dealership fix it.

(walks away shaking head in wonder.....)

He came in slightly fast and panicked. He tried to point it at the trailer that was in the water but he shut off the motor hoping it would stop it. Big mistake since the wind blew him off his desired course and he bounced off the trailer and well ran out of water. I wanted to snatch the life out of him but I guess accidents happen. Good thing for insurance.

And no he will never ride it again. Lesson learned on my part. I just figured since he's been riding jetskis all his damn life, he knew how to dock it but I was wrong.

Yeah that's just painful to read man. :-(

What was he thinking? Ughhh! Do you have a deductible you have to pay still?

- Michael

How much is the premium per month? Do you keep it 12 months a year (even for the winter months when it's in storage)? And who is the policy thru?

Thanks.

- Michael

Policy is through progressive and my premium is $170 per year. They didn't offer any other terms. I was looking only for summer months because I store in my garage on a stand in the winter time and if anything happened then my homeowners insurance would cover that. But at that price I just said screw it and cover it for the whole year.

However I just got off the phone with my adjuster and he informed me that my collision deductible is $500 not $250. My comprehensive is $250. Oopsie on my part when making the policy. Will have to call and change that.

Oooh! Ouch! I can't see it costing $500 to fix that damage though... has the dealership given you an estimate yet? I begin to think your insurance policy isn't really worth it. If you lower that deductible then they're going to jack up your premium you know this right? And you're only using it for half-a-year at most. This doesn't sound like a good deal for the watercraft owner IMHO. This isn't like your automobile which you drive most every day and always at "high" speeds compared to a watercraft. But that's just my opinion... it just sounds way too expensive to me for what you get.

- Michael

To each their own I guess but for the peace of mind I think it's worth it. And repair bill will be roughly $1500 to $1700 depending on how much fiberglass has to be added and other materials.

Yeah that's extreme pricing though at a dealership... any good boat repair shop would be able to fix it for ~$500 if not less. I just can't see more than $500 worth of damage there it's a bad bad scrape but not structurally damaged. For the price the dealership is asking there should be a gaping hole in the hull! Eeek!

- Michael

There is more damage than that picture shows. The fiberglass is actually frayed and torn into pretty good. Also there's scratches all over on side of the front of the hull. Whole front end needs to be painted

Ok, I'll take your word for it that it's much worse than what's shown in the pic. However, it's gelcoat not paint (much much thicker than paint, quite a bit tougher too).

The frayed fiberglass isn't such a big deal as long as it didn't crack or break structurally and the keel is the strongest part of the hull... I imagine the dealership will just spread some resin on the frayed glass, let it cure rough sand it down then slather on black gelcoat let it cure and sand it down flush with the rest of the gelcoat then buff it out to a high luster again. You won't be able to tell there's a repair there without a magnifying glass and a real good eye.

ps. I wasn't trying to convince you that your insurance was a bad idea, I was trying to convince me that it's a good idea.... and I'm just not convinced all-n-all. Too little peace of mind for too much money for my wallet, I'll still pass on it. But thanks for the info anyhows.

- Michael

I'm sure the repair isn't as extensive as the dealer is trying to make it. I called one more boat shop in the area and sent them a pic of the damage and they said they wont even touch it. If I was paying out of my pocket for the repair I'd shop around more.

It took me quite a few years to talk myself into the insurance. Premiums here in MI seem to be high compared to other places. I pay right around $1000 a year for my vehicle (2006 Saab 9-7x) so 170 a years seems like a bargain.
