I have a 95 sportster, is this something I can do myself or should I take it to the shop, I dont have any trouble getting my hands dirty its just I have never worked on a jet pump before. Any info would be a big help.

It's defiantly not the hardest project that you can get into with your boat, but it does require a little bit of mech. ability.
Some things you'll need:
Impeller removal tool
Vice
Metric Socket set
Metric Hex set
Hack Saw
Torque Wrench
Freezer
Jet Pump Oil
Beer
Patience

There is a ton of info about wear rings and impellers in the forum. I highly recommend getting a shop manual before doing this project and you'll have step by step instructions with pictures, torq specs and more. Sign up as a Prem. Member and you can download all the manuals you want.

I have everything but the impeller removal tool, how much beer should it talk, Im sure I will have two or three guys watching drinking and telling me a better way of doing the job.

You don't NEED the impeller removal tool, but it helps. You can grip the shaft with some vice grips and use it as the tool. Just heat up the impeller so the locktite will release.

But, the tool can be gotten from ebay for $15, and I recommend that so you don't bung up your shaft.

Oh, and my brother, who is a microsoft systems engineer, told me to keep lots of beer and COLA around. Start with a beer, then alternate a cola in. In my case, caffeine in the cola kept me up all night, and the beer kept me calm and from throwing the computer out the window.

Should work the same way for working on the boat.

lol...yah really,...have had a few things that grew wings. Beats take'n out on da boat.

Don’t forget you will need to buy the oil for the pump cone. If you want to play it safe also replace the O-ring gasket.

you will need: wear ring
Pump oil
Pump Cone O-ring
Impeller removal tool.

I highly recommend the Impeller Removal tool. Is only $15 and trust me you will use it again.

I HIGHLY recommend that if you are going into it that far, call up Dave at Impros and get a better pitched impeller.

I am starting to sound like a skipping record on this. Remember skipping records? And, NO, I don't work for Impros or get any kickbacks for yapping about them all the time.

The swirl impeller was by far the best money I have spent on this boat.

I have everything but the impeller tool. I get to buy tools you have to like that..
how much more power will the swirl impeller give me??

It gives torque. Kinda like swapping gears in your differential.

So, I lost 1-2 mph off the top end, but it now pulls out of the hole immediately, and none of that spinning for a couple seconds before it goes and planes off.

Used to plane in like 10 seconds and I had to mess with the VTS as it sped up. Now, doesn't matter where the trim is, just nail it to half or 3/4 throttle and out on a plane in 3 seconds.

I haven't even done a full throttle gun from idle yet. Don't need to. Will probably have to when the wife starts pulling me up on skis and surfboard.

Honestly, I used the vice grips on the first one, then bought the tool for all the later ones. It just didn't "feel" right cranking on it with vice grips.

Get the tool from ebay, not from the parts house. They wanted $85, but I got it off ebay for $15.

I think the parts house wanted me to bring it in for them to work on instead.
