My insurance company wants to know were I'll be using the Jet Ski. Apparently the "Gulf of Mexico" is to vague. :) Question... will the location of use affect the price of the insurance? They wanted the county and waterway which I have no clue. A little education and help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !!

There is one thing I know about that: above or below the 40th parallel. My contract is clear about that. I am above the 40th so I can't use my ski below 40th unless I ask for a specific insurance. I have the feeling that this is due to the fact that the season lasts longer below the 40th parallel and that some people will be riding in seawater, which is riskier in my opinion.

I already discussed this on a thread on this forum but the thread had 38 pages!

Hope this helps.

Benji.

You might be overthinking this a bit. Do you know where a boat ramp is that you will likely use? Use that as the location. If the ramp is directly into the gulf, then something along the lines of "coastal waters of xxxx county" will probably be sufficient for your insurance. Just talk to the agent and I am sure you will be able to work it out.

I run into a similar issue with my boat. I have to be very specific with how far from shore I will operate in the Atlantic. Beyond 25 miles or so the rules for my insurance change.

I am asking if the location or area will affect insurance rates. I have access to rivers, Lake, or Gulf of Mexico. I am just trying to determine if the actuary has determined one type of waterway is more risky than the other. I'll ride where rates are cheapest. Water is water.

It won't change a thing

Gulf of Mexico and inland waterways.

Usually you are limited to 30 miles offshore but that's not an issue for Pwc.

Coverage should be ver yh cheap, like $150 or less annually, mine is $122 for my 08.

Yep, that's a little different. My gut says that liability would be about the same no matter where you ride. I personally only carry liability - I don't insure my skis because it would have been about $300 a year on ski worth maybe $1000 to the right sucker, er, buyer.

I got a price and insurance on the first ski. The kept asking me where I rode and .... like I know... i just got it. They cancelled my policy than rewrote a policy. Not the price is $35 higher per year. I wonder if they are punishing me?? I have another ski now so I will talk to them. I have $300K liability on the ski which might be a bit much but.... you never know. That was only $20 more. LOL
