Yes I bought oem off of ebay... When I put the new ring in, I did spin the prop. it seemed a little tight but I assumed because the other was worn and this one is new it was just a snug fit like its supposed to be.
Think I found the prob..well one at least.. My buddy helping me torqued the hull/pump bolts on waaayyy too tight.. Basically the washers are pushed into plastic housing.... Now what!?
Those are not washers they are actually shims, they need to go back in the original locations, so now the pump is probably out of alignment. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the proper way to fix it is with and alignment tool.
Thx lou.. I took the pump back off and everything apart and the wear ring seems to just be too tight around the prop but only in one area. I didn't take the prop out when I put in the new ring so I wouldn't think its the shaft our thrust washer or bearings..?
You know we might be jumping the gun here, being the washers are counter sunk into the gel cote the pump might just be too close to the drive shaft causing binding. Get 4 additional stainless steel washers approximately the same size, add them to the washers that are counter sunk, this should bring the pump back out to near where it originally was. If that works and you're not getting excessive vibration that should fix your problem.
ACE Hardware has a pretty good selection of stainless steel hardware.
Here's a link to an alignment too should you need one.
