I have purchased a GSX ltd,1998. It has the 951 carburetor equipped motor. Seems to go ok although the bendix drive behind the flywheel just dropped a tooth. Guess I have to pull the front off to effect repair. Fortunately as a mechanic for 50 years, just another job. Not much room though. The starter motor splines/teeth are quite worn so predict this contributed to the broken tooth on bendix. However I digress. My main question is.
The jet unit fitted to this ski has no reverse but does have the trim capability. However I’m a little confused as driveshaft has a carrier type bearing and straight hose with two hose clips. It does not have the carbon seal and bellows type rubbers. Is this standard for GSX 1998 or has the pump been swapped for perhaps an earlier model. Working ok as is and no signs of modification but interested in my ski history.
Thanks folks. Nilo.

Early 98s had the carrier seal. Parts diagrams give serial numbers for carrier seal mid year switch to carbon seal.
Some liked the carrier better….give it a SMALL shot of grease on a regular basis

Rebuild your carbs!!! Go through the fuel system. Follow mikidymacs carb sticky to the letter.
Sticky is at the beginning of the 2 stroke section
Lean fuel delivery destroys theses motors
Genuine Mikuni parts , anything else is a waste of time and money

Thank you. Pulled the jet pump off this morning and dismantled. I’m going to give it new bearings and seals. Also alignment while all stripped. I’ll make my alignment tool out of 18mm s/s round bar and use the dismantled impeller housing as the guide. Housing by the way is plastic.Tomorrow I plan to remove the front and starter bendix. Looks fairly straightforward to me. I have an assortment of small heavy pullers so don’t see any issue with flywheel. I’ll leave the carbs in place and remove exhaust system. I have a selection of curved C spanners in my tools. I believe it’s 15mm or 9/16” perhaps.Cheers, Nilo.

Don't pull the flywheel by the mag bolt holes pull it by the center.and make sure you get the oil injection coupler correct.and loctite.i have worked on hundreds of machines owned by car guys because they think tight is good enough
