In what order should I mod

I just picked a bone stock low hour 95 hx. I've been around engine's my whole life but not 2 stroke and not ski's. (first ski)

What order do I mod this thing. Intake grate, ride plate, exhaust, etc. I've been doing searching and it's not like my mustang forums where there's just an overwhelming amount of mod info. Sooo many posts here seem to be about problems :(

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

there must be some sort of common order you guys follow?!? One part or another must have better results than the other. IE a pipe will be the biggest bang for the buck... I'm really super new to ski's and don't have the money to just go out and and buy a ride plate, intake grate, impeller, pipe, etc all at once.

The biggest problem will be your check book. Parts are expensive. You can get bigger carbs, intakes, higher compression heads, aftermarket exhaust, electronic water injection, impellers, grates, steering, and on and on.

You shouldn't of bought a two stroke :D

These are not 4 strokes like our cars esp if your into modding your mustang. Although ski wasn't 5k+

You should start by reading up on you model. A lot of things come up on a 16 yo ski.
If its running make sure your oil injection system is working or know if your pre mixing.
You should inspect you fuel lines. If they are grey change them. DrHonda has thread on "Why They Suck" lines get gummy.

Like mentioned above bigger carb, better exhaust, increase air flow, intake grate but it will lead to more troubles down the line.
Stock is the most reliable.

I do have the time to tinker and wrench so I could accept it if the machine is a little finicky. The machine has under 80 hrs on it. It had not been run in ten years when I got it. Before fire I drained fuel, oil, cleaned both tanks, replaced fuel lines, plugs, used a product to remove carbon build up. She fired right up, smoked for about 10 secs and that was that. I've had it out for 3 hours, only problem it has is it will bog if left at idle for a moment (which I have yet to hunt down, has a br8es, going to try a warmer plug first and go from there, unless anyone has a suggestion). Other than that the ski is good to go and runs great. To me modding is half the fun of owning.

Are there gains to be made by tinkering with the jetting bone stock? Also, how could a pipe make that much of a difference in reliability?

OK... so, at least you have a direction to go. (Power)

On the HX, you have a 720 engine. That tiny little 2 cyl engine is already pushing out 85 hp. The factory jetting is normally spot-on with the 720 engines. adding more fuel will not find you any more power. Unlike a car engine... they are not run lean to try to meet emissions requirements. (Besides, a lean run is death to a 2-stroke)

With the 720 engine... the best "Bang for the buck" in performance is installing a "Factory Pipe" and it's water control system. They get a real 20 hp gain with that system. But, factory pipe recommends leaving the rest of the engine stock to maintain reliability. (The carbs, and airbox will support over 100 hp)

That is the best piece of advice I've gotten and I thak you dr honda. Does an intake grate fall into that avoid list in order to remain stock? I think I will do the pipe and see if I'm satisfied. I do want more power and don't mind wrenching. Just don't want too finicky of a beast. Thank you for posting up :)

No... an intake grate is a handling mod. With handling mods... there is always a give a take.
