I'm a new member, this forum looks like it's a great place!

I'm going to buy a couple of used 3 passenger boats, I'm not sure which yet. But I'll be looking for 2 boats on a trailer under $8,000. So they'll be a bit older, but I'll find a couple of fresh water boats that have been well kept.

Are there models or motors that should be avoided? The supercharged models sound like a handful, but I'm open to anything.

I'm open to Waverunners as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Three passenger boats....hmmmm, .. I'm kinda thinkin your talkin about skis and not boats. I think the smallest boat handles 4 or 5 people.

If your going to be looking for two of the 3 passenger type skis, one trailer, I'd recommend the GTX. Not because it's my fav and personal ski, but because it's a stable model made from the mid to late 90's, has plenty of storage room, fast on the throttle, speeds up to and a bit over 60 mph (on the dream-o-meter)...... but, because it's got the best 2-stroke motor Rotax ever came out with; the 787cc (110hp). The only 2 stroke motor bigger is the 951 (130hp), but it's got some different design characteristics that I don't care a lot for. Mainly, air operated RAVE valves and intake reeds instead of a rotary motor.....

So, welcome to the forum..... there are many members here with great opinions on what your wanting to do.........Cheers!

Thanks for the info, I do mean Skis. I just want reliable fun for my family, so I don't really need 70MPH skis. I'm really not even sure on the brand. I've rented Seadoos in the past and liked them. I'm looking at two on a trailer, one 2004 seadoo 3D (what ever that is) and a 2002 Polaris Virage. And another set of 99 and an 02 Seadoo on a trailer.

It's going to be a good summer!

the 3d is a cross breed between a stand up and a sit down. it has a cart seat that can be removed and then you have a complete stand up. i'm personal stay away from the polaris, i have 2 four-wheelers by them. one of which a two stroke and they are nothing but trouble. plus limited amount of parts for them. really good starter ski's i would recomend, 96-02 gtx, 96-02 gti, or 97-02 gts. here is a link for you to see all seadoo models: http://www.seadoosource.com/seadoomodelreference.html

Bust Out Another Thou....

I'll just float the Ski in my pool, that way I can throw money into the hole in the water that's in the hole in the ground where I already throw money.

LOL

I found a couple of 2003 GTI skis that look right.

I saw the recommendation for the 97 - 02 GTX.

Any reason to stay clear of the 03?

Is the 4 tec a good thing or a bad thing? It looks like the the motor is a bit smaller in that ski as well.

they switched to 4-tech's that year.

This is actually incorrect.

The GTI's continued to be sold with 2-strokes until 2006.

The 2003 GTI and GTI LE came with a carbureted 717 engine.

The 2003 GTI LE RFI had the 787 engine with fuel injection.

Both are known to be good reliable motors if taken care of.

There is no reason to stay away from a 4 stroke, they are good machines too. No matter what engine you get though, you have to take care of it. If things go wrong, 4 stroke motors are much more expensive to replace. That is partially why many choose a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke. Another reason many choose a 2 stroke is that they tend to be easier to work on if you are the 'do-it-yourself' kind of guy.

Good luck!

Excellent information!

actually i was right. we where talking about gtx's and in 03 they put the first 4-tech into the gtx.

My question was: Is there any reason to stay clear of the 03 GTI. But all of the answers are excellent! I needed that information, for maintenance reasons I think I'll be getting the 2 stroke models, but that really comes down to what I can find with 2 on a trailer.

Thanks for everything!

I found a couple of 06 GTI's (not SE), 45 hours, immaculate condition, original owner, never in salt...

Anything I need to know?

The mechincs of these look pretty reliable, I made an offer on them today.

Thanks for all the input, I bought some Jet Skis, but they are the Kawasaki STX 12F model. I hope they turn out to be as good as the Sea Doos!

I appreciate the responses that I've had here, great forum.
