Idle adjustment?

Hello guys I wanted to make an adjustment to my idol because it was pretty bad. I'm trying to figure out how you would ever do this on the lake after tearing all the top-end stuff off to even get at the screw? I couldn't even see these screws at first. Now the question is how do I adjust it out of the water with all the carburetor stuff taken off the top end, do I just wing it and turn it a half a turn or a full turn and see how it is? I don't have a tach of any kind so any suggestions before I put it all back together. Also I noticed when I took that piece that goes right down onto the carburetor bodies there were no gaskets is there supposed to be? Other than the idle it runs great so thanks for any input or advice, Randy

First off, what ski is this? Second, you shouldn't have to take off the airbox or anything to adjust idle. There is an idle adjustment T handle right on the top of the carb. Do not adjust the T handles that go into and on the sides of the carb if it's running well. Those are high and low speed. You just want the one that adjusts the rotating carb butterfly.... probably by 1/4 turn clockwise to open up the butterfly a little at idle....

Hello and thanks for the reply.
It's a 1996 gti. I couldn't even see the screws until I took the flame arrestor off. I know which screw now and was wondering if you can check rpm someway ?
