Anybody reasearched this? I know that it would be a tight fit and the weight would almost certainly destroy the low speed performance, but i think it would be a great project. I want to be able to run with the 70mph yamahas.
This is an amazing idea...I don't think it will work though...The weight balance on the 3d is pretty finite, so i imagine that changing the weight in the front of the ski by that much would cause serious, well....floating issues
Look up the Webber engines. They are 2 cyl, Turbocharged, High RPM engines. Polaris was using them when they shut down production of their watercraft in 2005, and the UTV guys are swapping them in. They aren't cheap... but they can be bought as a ready to bolt in engine.
The one in the link is the "Drop it in the hull" engine with closed loop cooling. If you want the standard version... it's much lighter, but you will have to build all the supporting systems.
