I put a photo on my profile, but does not appear. How do you respond when messages appear in my profile picture?

There are several pictures you can add to the site.
Profile Picture is the picture that displays when someone goes to your profile page. If I click on your name in a post, I go to your profile page (and I see your picture).
Avatar is the picture that displays to the left of every post you make, in the box that contains all the information about you (Join date, location, etc.)
Signature, which is not necessarily a picture, is what display at the bottom of all of your posts. you can have just text, a picture, or both.
All of these things you can edit/add under Tools->Edit Profile and then look under My Settings on the left. there are actually quite a few ways to get to this page on the site.
