why would the engine fill with water when hooked to a garden hose????? could it be the exhaust pipe?? or am i screwed.

is there problems with the front pipes on these things? by the way its a 1996 gsx just replaced the engine with a used low hour engine out of a 97 xp

If you put it on the hose before you start the engine, the water will fill up the engine.

Also, same thing if you cut the engine off before disconnecting the hose.

You need to start the engine, attach the hose with a moderate flow, not too much or the engine will not be able to flow it out, and it will back up. Run it for a couple to 5 minutes. then cut the water for about 5 seconds and cut the engine. In that order.

Otherwise, water backs up into the engine causing all kinds of problems.

Also, are you pinching hoses where the manual directs you to?

no, wow i guess i should read more. it filled that sucker till it was pouring out the carbs. and i cant take it out and ride it till i get it running right, and at this rate its not looking good.

Emergency...

First thing...pull out the spark plugs and turn it over until any water shoots out the top of the engine.

Next...

I don't care how late it is where you are, go out NOW and start the engine, and squirt some mystery oil into the top of the spark plug holes, whatever you need to do to get it running ASAP and lubed. It will not have a chance to rust up if you get it running and lubed now.

Then you may have minimal damage.

Starting fluid, some oil in the spark plug holes, etc, but don't let it sit after you have filled it up with water or it will rust up solid over the next few days.

Get it running for 3-5 minutes and it should burn out any water and you should be safe. But don't let it sit for long.

Good luck and God speed to you...

thanks for your advice, you are the man. after about 6 hours and 14 plugs she fired. sounded good, ran it not long but got it nice and hot. fingers crossed.

runs awesome. fast sum bitch too, now i have to work on the cavation problem. i think its the carbon seal that i should have replaced, plus i had some water in the hull. just a minor set back.
