hour meter

Original owner of a 2007 Challenger 180.....the hour meter has never worked properly. The boats has been dealer maintained and runs perfectly except that the hour meter (which should have close to 30 hours) still only has 6 hours on it. It will work properly when the engine is running....but when you turn the boat off the meter resets. The local SeaDoo dealer said that a "fix" was supposed to happen for the 08 models.....does anyone know about it or might have had a similar problem.

Welcome to the seadoo forum cspeer. It should still be under the warranty if it is less than a year old. If it is have the dealer replace it under warranty.

karl, they did.....and it still did not work correctly. For whatever reason it gets to about 6 or so hours and just will not go any higher. If I ran the boat for 3 consectutive hours it would go up to 9......then turn it off and it reverts back to 6. I bought the boat last year in Jacksonville, FL...so I called them and talked to the owner who had recently been to a "SeaDoo" convention and that particular boat problem was brought up. The issue was supposed to be corrected on the 08's (and recalled for 07's) but just wondered if anyone had heard of a similar problem or if it had been corrected. Other than that it works as advertised.....

thanks,
Chris

I just bought a 200 speedster, that didn't have an hour meter, so I bought one and hooked it up to the purple wire that goes th the after market depth guage. It only registers when the lanyard is connected on the dess post. It is right on the money and hasn't given me any problems. Can you disconnect the meter with out losing any other features? I think seadoo should make good and replace or repair the problem for for free. Meanwhile I would disconnect the guage if possible, and install an after market one if you need to know the correct run hrs. It is an important issue to me so I can do the maintenance at the correct intervals.

Karl, thanks for the help with the hour meter issue. With the boat as new (07 Challenger 180) as it is it's not a "show stopper" but is annoying and the SeaDoo folks here in Pensacola have been helpful.....just did not get it fixed.

Yet another oil question......given my 4 stroke engine and that the owners manual specifies no synthetic oil what do you recommend? I had the dealership change it during the break-in period but I hate taking it to them for an oil change. I let them do it during the 10 hour.....but I would prefer to do it myself....where do you order your parts?

I did have a couple of "dings" (minor) in the boat/hull last summer. They stand out to me...because I know they are there. Do you have a specific recommended repair kit? Also...I did the winterization myself....fogging, fuel stabilization, battery tender etc.....but did not wax or really do anything specific to the hull. I have a pressure washer that I use after each usage....I'm always in salt water but how do you keep the hull in good shape.

Your thoughts....

Chris

You can get the replacement oil filters from K&N filter direct. I paid $12.95 each. Auto zone can get them too, but they are $19.95 each.. I got the "o" rings from a seadoo dealer locally. I use seadoo authentic oil...4stroke mineral oil 10w40. It retails from the seadoo dealers for like $6.50 a qt. I have a oil pump unit I got from West Marine that sucks out the oil from the dip stick. Took just a few minutes, and worked like a charm. For the finish on my Speedster I pull my boat off the lift once a month and wash it good on the trailer, than apply Teflon wax(West Marine). It repels the salt water like a dream and makes it easier to rinse it off when it is on the boat lift.

Same problem, 2007 Challenger 180 SE

I too have an hour meter that does not work properly, my dealer was supposed to have fixed it last year. I have only registered 2 hours this year, I know I should have about 35-40 hours total on my gauge. I also have an issue with the digital compass, when I head out to Gull Island it reads dead East but if I head back dead West I end up a mile away from launch. I have to head NW on my way back, seems strang to me. Maybe it is because the magnetic pole shifted while I was out on the water LOL!

Also, I am having a problem with acceleration, it won't go past 14mph. I have it in for repair right now, they said I might need a new pump or I have a wear ring problem. Any idea what it would cost to have this repaired?
