Hey guys, I just recently purchased a partially assembled 1996 Seadoo GPX 720 from a buddy for 600 bucks. He had it sitting for about a year after he originally pulled and rebuilt the engine, and unfortunately didn’t take much for pictures before he did so. I’ve been able to find where nearly everything goes except for one thing. There’s a small hose port or whatever you want to call it that’s located towards the rear of the engine on the carb side of the block. I have already connected all the oil lines and all the water lines that I could find, and I can’t find any other loose hoses anywhere. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks.
John

Hi John,

Silly question...but where did you come up with a 1996 gPx 720?

I've heard of 1996 SP, SPX, SPI, GTS, GTI, XP, HX, GSX, GTX but not a GPX? Just curious...is that a typo and PLUS one on racerxxx...that is the PULSE line from the engine to the carbs, so you have open ports....engine and carb.

You are correct, it’s an SPX. I’m not sure why I typed GPX. Do you have a picture of the connections by chance? I can’t find anymore openings on the carb where anything could be attached. And I thought the pulse port was at the front of the carb, which I already have hooked up via the little 90 degree elbow hose at the front of the engine.

Some of the engines used two ports and some only one. Since that isn't the original engine if your ski only uses one pulse port then cap off the other one.

Also you need to replace the little 3/32" oil lines. I can see you still have the original ones and they will break and starve the engine of oil.

It is the original engine as far as I know. My buddy just did a full rebuild on it. And thanks for the tip on the oil lines. I will make sure to replace them ASAP. I will take a better picture of my carb connections so you guys can see how everything is hooked up, and hopefully tell me if I have something wrong.

So here is a better picture of what I have hooked up. It was my understanding that the hose circled in red that goes from the carb to the engine is my pulse line? And the port circled in yellow is also a pulse line? Am I ok to just cap this one off? There are 2 places on my carbs where a line could be attached, but neither have hose attachment points on them.

Yes, your carbs only have 1 fuel pump so only need 1 pulse line. The rear one can be capped off.

Ah.....I was a little suspicious about that port, as I always thought (and seen) that the pulse port was at the front of the engine at the MAG end (that's how my '96 is set up) and his original picture was clearly at the PTO end . Looking at the service manual though....it LOOKS like the pulse port DOES come off the rear end side of the engine....I've just never seen it there and will now look more closely to see if I have a capped off port....I DON'T THINK I DO as I've never noticed one, but now I have to look more closely just to satisfy my curiosity.

Sheesh...you can NEVER know enough about these engines....always something NEW to learn. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
