Here are some pics of the the hole in my tuned pipe... From previous posts everyone says this is pretty normal and easy to fix...

I'm grinding the rough edges and I have some JB Weld I'm going to plug it up with... but its a pretty big hole... I wanted make sure ya'll don't think I'd have any problems doing that.

Some people have suggested using marine tex instead... any thoughts?

Welding it is a permanent fix.

BUT... if you want to glue it... you can use either of the glues you posted. Make sure you build a tight fitting plug first.

I brought it to a pretty big local auto shop I use pretty frequently, and I've helped a couple of the guys that work there in my job... to see if I could get it welded.

We took it to their guy that does the welding and he said he couldn't do it... The excuse I got was "he can't weld cast steel, it doesn't get hot enough so it cracks." I half think the guy was telling me what ever he could to make me go away because he didn't want to do it... but I know nothing about welding.

I have 3 questions I want to see if ya'll can help me with... or direct me to where I can find the info.

1. Is the tunepipe on a 99 Sportster 1800 made of cast steel? If not, what?

2. Where would be a place that could do this? Should I just look up a "machine shop" in the area?

3. If I use a plug, my best option I can find as of now is a piece of sheet metal I've cut to fit the hole... and I will use JB Weld... Any thoughts or tricks to make this a good fix?
