hello i'm new to the forum and pwc's in general for the most part... make a long story short, i bought a 98 gsx with the 951cc in it this past weekend. and got a nice day yesterday to take it out. i live right on lake Erie so a prime spot to own one , gotta say water is quite cold in late October hah. but any ways the ski fires right up and sounds nice and solid. but when i got it in the water and went to take off on it. when it started to pull and had a load on it. it started to make a very bad high pitch noise and almost like a chunky metal noise almost like a bearing so i rode it for a few min and tried to get through it. which one it gets in the top end it seems to go away. so basically i just screwed with it for a few min and it seemed to do it off and on. but im my opinion something is def wrong hah. i work at a auto body shop and from my guess the clunk sounds like a bearing but the high pitch... no idea. from what ive found on here some posts make it sound like the jet pump needs rebuilt. also as a side note this doesn't seem to affect the motor. it still has power and pull and doesn't hesitate when it makes the noise. any incite on this would be much appreciated- thanks guys . -scott

i'm not the seadoo geek

but does it make the same noise running out of the water?. if so front or back of the boat?

Does the pitch change with RPM?

check the driveline out,

any oil in the pump

grease the zerks on the drive line?

any oil in the counter balancer?

it dostn seem to make it much out of the water. and the pitch changes a little .. not a whole lot tho more just volume lvl with the rpm

had a customers kawasaki doing the same . on the trailer it sounded ruff but sounded ridable . in the water the thrust would push the impeler and drive shaft foward and the bearing were not even there any more and the impeller had started eating into the intake grate . drop you pump and fire it up , oh and besure to pull your drive shaft out or back enuff to unhook it form the motor or it will wobble its ass off . but i too think the pump is toast and ebay will prob be the best way to go
