Engine was running great yesterday. Thought we ran it out of fuel. Just did compression check. 150/0 getting a pop sound also.

One cylinder is 150 and the other is 0? Pop the top of the cylinder and see if your o-ring is torn then check the cylinder walls and piston tops

Pulled the head. A piece of the piston broke off and got pummeled inside the head. Wall is barely scored so looks like an easy fix.

Well, you have a couple of options.

1. Replace what is broke and then hope you have compression with the cylinder wall as is.
2. You bore it out with an oversize kit and have a little peace of mind.
3. There may be other options, just haven't thought of any right now.

At least you don't have to pull the engine to sort this. I'm just hoping no fragments went into the bottem end.

Do both pistons need to be replaced?

Hey Phildoo, it looks to me like the other jug and piston is okay (from what I can see in the picture). I would start with fixing the broken one, then see where you compression is on both jugs. That results from comp. test will let you know whether your doing both or not. If you need a jug let me know I have two I can send down if you need em'

The other cylinder has 150 compression. So I can get by with replacing the damaged one?..will the new piston be heavier or lighter and throw off the balance? Where is a good place to get as close to stock?? Sbt?

Look like we are going to have almost same rebuild job to do. I will open mine tonight to see what happen exactly and hope to get back on water within 2 week

Are you going to tear into bottom end?
I had piston shatter too and worried about the pieces that got down there??

I have two motors that need rebuilding :(

No. Rod seems tight so don't need to yank the engine out. Had a ring failure so just trying to decide on one or both pistons. Have perfect compression on other cylinder so hate to tear into it if it's not necessary.

You could always do the one, see how your compression is on both afterwards and make a descion. It may be worth it to order two pistons and ring sets just in case. Browse over to SBT I don't think it'll be over the top expensive.

under 300 bucks for a set with gaskets with sbt.

Fullbore has it where they will hone jugs to new piston for free.....
