I have a 96 xp that runs really strong until I give it full throttle and then it kinda bogs down. I can be going 30, gas it and hit 52-53 then it almost dies and goes back down to 30 or so. This is my first 2 stroke I don’t know much I’m just YouTube taught haha

Well you have given us very little information and your symptoms could be caused by different things. Give us some history on the ski and maintenance and repair.

I just bought it this summer I’ve only took it out 3 times. The guy I bought it from bought it new and took really good care of it from what he showed me. He said he rebuilt the carbs 2 years ago and kept them clean. New fuel lines, new spark plugs, New air filter. I just don’t know much I’m just kinda clueless here. It kinda feels like it has a governor. But last time I took it out it ran perfect.

"he said" you really can't trust what people tell you sometimes. You should take the carbs off and rebuild them yourself, you really don't know if he used good rebuild kits or not, or any at all.

Your issue points to fuel delivery problems, which could be from the tank to the carbs, you won't know until you dig in and investigate. But....I wouldn't keep running it, now is your chance to prevent an engine rebuild.

Yes to the above.

Go into things now. If my machine hiccups at all I cut the throttle back fast and go into the carbs before I run it wide open again.

For those still learning, how does a bad carb kill a ski? Does it run it too lean, causing the engine to run hot, and kill it?

On my 96 GTS, I rebuilt the carbs and it worked great, but I did some adjustments on the low speed on the carb and got more power (1/8 turn in). I was recommended to put it back to stock, as the stock adjustments should be good enough and running it leaner could do damage. When do you tune with the carb and when do you leave it alone?

I appreciate it. I will dive into it but like I said this is my first 2 stroke. Honestly my first time digging into anything by myself (always had my grandpa to help) So I may be coming back with some more questions haha

It get's lean and it detonates, and the detonation hammers pistons and breaks stuff. Unlike some engines, think automotive, when detonation occurs, there's a harmonic sensor and it'll pulls the ignition back to prevent a catastrophic failure. These engines do not have that level of sophistication. It's why you'll always hear, rebuild the carbs, focus on the fuel system, no air leaks, etc. It's usually the cheapest and most preventive way to avoid bigger and more expensive problems later.

We welcome you to come back. There are many experienced members here who will gladly give you guidance.

What’s up guys I know I’ve posted on here a couple times today. I’m just looking for some guidance because I’m new to owning a sea doo and don’t know much about 2 stroke engines. My problem is that when I go full throttle the engine gives out and I have no response on my throttle, until I get down to about 30 mph. I just bought this ski and took it out 3 times. Ran perfect. Then I pulled my brother on a wakeboard and it ran perfect. After we took the ski rope off and I took off is when my trouble started. Carbs are clean and has a brand new wear ring, fuel lines, air filter. Help please!!

Why are you starting another thread? You asked this already and you were getting guidance what to do. So....I'll copy and paste the same response....

Oh hey I appreciate the smart ass remark! You really helped. I took the carbs off. They were clean. Just thinking of what else it could be and that’s why I’m posting again. Bc usually guys don’t scroll down and look at threads from 12 hours ago. They look at the ones recently posted I feel like. But hey you’ve made me feel pretty unwelcome so I won’t bother you guys no more. I apologize

Don’t get frustrated with us yet, we all really want to help.

It sounds like you have fuel starvation issue which is really common.

You really need to go through the entire fuel system and rebuild the carbs with only genuine Mikuni parts and new needles and seats.
You can’t just “clean” them.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass I'm trying to help you, you're not listening to what we're telling you, carbs looking clean doesn't tell you anything. I'll be more specific, we're they rebuilt with oem kits? genuine, not aftermarket. What is the pop off psi? this will tell you what spring is in it. People sometimes throw in the wrong spring. Has the fuel selector been replaced? Has the fuel strainer oring been replaced? All that stuff needs to be perfect or it could run like shit.

GGuillot can be a little rough around the edges but he really is trying to help you and is giving you good info.
Sometimes it is easy to get the wrong impression ove the interwebs.

I will say this is one of the most helpful forums I've seen online, and the people here are great, GGuillot included. Text is just such a bad communication medium, sometimes.
