My steering cable locked up on me since last season. No way to budge or lube back into service. I purchase new cable from dealer. I found out that the cable has changed from orginal design so I asked what other parts do I need to accomodate the new cable. I was sold part# 277001578 (cable) plus 277001582 (wiper rod/rubber gasket) and 277001583 (end piece/rubber gasket). I assume these other 2 parts are because the new cable is slightly smaller in diameter than the old cable and those parts are not includes with the new cable (kind of dumb)

I figured out where 277001582 goes but not sure about 277001582. Does anybody got a picture of how these come together? Most of the diagrams I found on the web are not clear.

What I am worried about is what part prevents water from going into hull? Or, am I supposed to lube up the split half pieces to prevent water from passing through?

You need a #277000784 Cable Lock to hold the cable in the hull.

If this link works you can see a full schematic of what you will be assembling.

Ok, I found the missing part, it is a rubber grommet thing that I did not notice when I dissembled. It dropped out of site when I pulled out the cable. This make sense that it will seal out the water.

However, I have another question. I found another part on the floor that looks like it fits in this same area but is not part of any part diagram I see on the net. This piece was found a couple of feet from my working area so I am not positive it is part of the Sea-Doo or just a random piece that that I found on the floor that just happens to be the size that fits. I have a few pictures with comments...

The part in question is the second from the left. It is a thick metal washer but it cupped that the rubber grommet (left piece) fits perfectly into it. But this washer is the piece that is not on diagrams.

This is what they look like assembled. The split pieces got put together and put inside of the large nut, you can barely see a portion of them in this pictures. See how the rubber grommet fits perfectly into the metal washer?

The left piece is the rubber piece. I know this is the right part. The right piece is the one in question. It seems like this belongs there.

It makes sense that the metal washer fits over the rubber grommet because otherwise, the split pieced would be pushing against the rubber grommet.

Oh, and another thing, I have not fully assembled this until I confirm if that metal washer is part of the assembly but I have a question about cable length. The new cable is about 1-1/2" longer than the old one. I hope I am wrong, but I think this will throw off the steering alignment. Anybody have this experience that the new cable is longer than the old one?
