I just bought a 97 Challenger 1800 and I am missing a little part on the drivers side of the boat (not out the back by the jets, but out the side), it is just above the water line, has kind of a wire meshing inside the tip of it, and has threads on it but I guess I am missing the the part that screws on the threads. I can't find it in any of the parts diagrams and It doesnt list it in the owners manual. I went to the seadoo shop and ordered a part but they said I needed a scupper valve and from everything I have seen on here the only scupper valve referenced seems to be the one that was recalled going to the drain under the drivers seat (which I need anyways) and out by the jets. However, the parts guy did tell me not to use it until I get this part because this little port was an exhaust drain and I had to have the scupper valve or water could go back up the exhaust, is this true? The guy I bought the boat from said (and gave me reciepts for the work) he had just had the fuel tank pumped; carb cleaned and new carb jets because he some how sucked water into the carb. Would this missing part be the cause of that?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the seadoo forum. I doubt that the exterior screen item your talking about has anything to do with water coming into the engine...Check out "Parts" link at the top of the page for the part you need...

Thanks for your help! I have looked through all of the diagrams under the OEM parts finder link but I don't see anything that looks like what I need. I may have just looked over it because I dont really know what the part is I need or what it does, I just know what I have and apparently I am missing something. Any other ideas?

I'm still not sure the exact part you need to be honest, because the part is missing. I'm not trying to be smart, but a picture of the location would be a great help. Use the " go advanced " reply at the bottom to add your picture.

Taking a random guess...

but could it be the fuel tank vent? Karl is right...a picture of the part or location would help tremendously.

Fuel tank vent..
Go fill it up with gas & see if you get gas shooting out & get spewed on (happens to me every time) Think I'd learn & not stand infront of it while fueling up..

Fuel tank vent it is, just now ordered a new one!

Thanks for your help! Now I know the part I am missing is the cap that goes on it to prevent water from going back through it to my gas tank. This would explain why the previous owner had to have the carb rebuilt and the gas tank pumped.

Now the only problem is that I took it out for an hour or so on Sat. just to make sure everything ran ok, I got in to an area with some pretty big waves and I just wonder if I got water into my gas tank through the vent since it didn't have the cap to keep water out? It didn't miss or run rough at all while running it the only problem I encountered was that the port engine died several times when I was trying to put it back on the trailer, this happened when I would cut in the direction that gives it power for the turn assist from the port engine it died 3 or 4 times but everytime it would start right back up, any idea on what might cause this? (I was thinking maybe the engine got cold because I let the boat set for about 30 or 45 min. before puting it on the trailer)
I have water seperators on the gas lines if I check them and find water in them, what should I do to minimize any further damage then I may have already caused?

Thanks for all the help I'm new at this whole deal!
