Good day every one.
I would like to know if anyone has any tricks to solve my issue or if when I take it to a local guy he isn’t going to rip me off

background
Just got the boat last week 1999 sportster 1800. Bought it off a boat engine guy who has a full engine shop and he put 2 new rotax 717 engines in and says he rebuilt the drive line and propeller and wear ring.

the market around here is insane so I bout without a water test

both engines fire right up and idle Perfect

my issues is the carbon wear ring there is a little stream coming out but seams to go away when running and then returns when the engines are off. Here is the odd part I go check the boat after sitting all night in the water and it has stopped leaking. This happened 2 nights in a row

I am also noticing my rpms are off starting at mid throttle on the engine that is leaking being lower

see attached picture of what it looks like

any input would be great as I’m trying to get up to par on running and maintaining this machine (previous car guy)

Remove the PTO cover so we can see the carbon seal. Take a pic of it leaking without that on

So, here's my opinion.......

I bet you pull those jet pumps and you missing probably at least one of the rubber bumpers in the ends of the driveshaft. The PTO boot is so close to the taper on the shaft. Also, I can tell there is zero grease in the PTO. That boot should be plump. Fix all that you'll get the correct tension on that seal. When you pump grease into the zero fitting the driveshaft will move back towards the jet pump. That will increase tension on the seal where it's leaking. But, most importantly, you gotta confirm you have those bumpers in the ends of the driveshaft.
