I Just bought my first seadoo and I hope someone could help me out. From what I understand there is coolant in the intake and exhaust. Do I just hook up a hose by the jet and run it on land to flush it out before dumping it into the lake. My model is a 2004 gtx 4-tech sc. Also the brand of oil to us as well Is it a 10-40 or 5-40. Can it be Quaker state or should I stay with oem oil. Thanks.

Come on guys someone must have an answer

coming out of storage

Was marine ant=freeze used? That is non-toxic. Every state has different laws about disposal .I would check with your local authority. I personally would not let it go in a lake. As per the oil ,I have a 03 4 tec and I spent the extra money for the seadoo oil .My dealer recommended the synthetic blend.

I guess what does not make sence to me is the 4 tech is a closed loop system (coolant) where does the antifreeze get added for winterization, somewhere in the drive pump???
Just so I'm clear, the main pick up cools down the heat exchanger.

The system is closed. The engine coolant goes through the heat exchanger and is cooled in the heat exchanger by the raw water coming in. When I winterized my ski I used a boat winterizing kit.I ran the antifreeze through the hole system.I then removed the raw water hoses and added more antifreeze. The seadoo manual tells you where to add anifreeze.

Closed and Open cooling

The 4-TEC has 2 separate cooling systems. Most of the engine is cooled by a closed loop cooling system as mentioned in other posts. This system always has water/antifreeze mix and just needs to be watched to make sure the level does not get low. The Exhaust Manifold, and Exhaust Pipe and Muffler are cooled by open loop lake water or water from your hose if you are out of the water. this open loop needs to be winterized with some antifreeze/water that will get flushed out when you get the boat ready for the session. Now actually the newer recommendation for winterizing or any long storage is to use compressed air through the water hose input to blow out all the water rather then treat any water left in the exhaust system with antifreeze. (I do not know if that applies to a 2006 but likely does). There is an opening in the Exhaust manifold to the cylinders so you need to be sure to learn the correct procedure to back flush on a hose to keep from forcing water into the cylinders. (always start the engine first then turn on the water hose, run for no longer then 10 minutes at a time on the hose then shut off the water hose BEFORE turning off the engine.

Thanks for the info. From what I understand from u is I can put anti freeze in the hook up where the hose normaly goes for flushing on land. Or should I just get under the unit by the intake a seperate the lines from exhaust and put what I can in the lines and close it up till spring when that time comes.

Here is the correct way to get you inter looping 4 tec seadoo ready for the up coming season. Be sure the battery is fully charged. Do this by charging it unattached to the wiring on the seadoo and out of it if possible. Put a catch pan under the engine to catch any anti-freeze that will come out of the exhaust when it first starts, unless you know it is environmentally friend anti-freeze. Remove the air intake hose from the throttle body. Open the throttle body valve by pressing on the throttle. Spray the lube through the throttle bore to lubricate the valve mechanism. Then spray generously the external parts of the throttle body. Install the boot. Check the throttle cable and linkage to be sure it is working properly. Check all the hoses and wiring to be sure no wires are cracked or broken/ corroded. Check the anti-freeze level and the oil level, to be sure it is at the correct levels. Be sure the fuel is clean. If it smells bad or hasn't had any stabilizer in it, I would replace it with fresh fuel. I would go over everything with screw drivers (check clamps) all the nuts and bolts to be sure everything is tight, and give everything a once over. Install new spark plugs and you should be ready to fire it up. Connect the garden hose attachment, but leave the water turned off. Hook up the dess lanyard, you should hear 2 beeps. Start it up looking for anti freeze coming out the exhaust, and catch what you can to dispose of properly. After it has run for about 10 seconds turn on the water. Let it run for no longer than say 5 minutes as it will over heat the impeller shaft, bearings and seals. Also the engine gets cooled off when it is in the water. The hose only cools the exhaust systems. Turn off the water first and then shut down the engine, so the water from the hose won't flood the engine. The pressure of the exhaust keeps the water from entering the engine. Remember the procedure start up the engine first turn on water...shut off water turn off engine. Re-check all the fluids and change the oil too if you like.
When you change your oil be sure you use 10w40, marine 4 stroke Oil, with a API of SL, SJ or SN. On older Super Charged models it is recommended you not use synthetic oil. Mineral or synthetic blend is recommended by seadoo. If you need the procedure to changing your oil let me know and I'll post some info on that too. I hope this helps you out.

thanks Karl, great help.
sence I'm a newb to all this if you have the time could you explain in detail on how to winterize the seadoo as well, the part on placing additional anti-freeze to the intake and exhaust sections are troubling me.
I am normally rebuilding and tuning my ski-doo so I'm good with a wrench it's just all new right now and I want to be on the right path and get the maintenance part right. Thanks again.
