After I cleaned my carbs and put it back together, everything was cool, the motor sounded like it was going to start, and I forgot to put the fuel selector valve to on.

Then after a little bit, the motor doesnt crank over, not even with the plugs pulled out, sounds like a bad starter, did I do something wrong?

when my battery is low and won't fully crank the engine it sometimes makes more of a clunk sound, your battery ok?

Thank you bigjake, yes I looked at the battery, it looks completely drained (with my marine charger hookedup to it).

I checked the PTO, thankfully it moves freely. I did however hear a little flash before this happened. Hopefully its the battery. Or the starter, my compression check right before this was 145 each cylinder, I hope i couldnt have fried it so quick?

Wow, I charged the battery like 2 hours, the bilge fan works fine, however the battery marine charger is still giving me complete "red" (not charged) when I am charging it. Of course I completely removed the battery cables and just connected the marine charger.

This is the first time I see any battery on my boat be completely red (not charged at all), even after 3 hours of charging? I tried to reconnect the battery (after the 3 hour charge) and I still hear a little THUD (click).

It sounds like when a starter is bad on a car, where you would try to start it and it would not start? I did however remember I heard like a spark before it completely died on me? Man I hope its nothing more expensive than this. I just put my new upholstery and my new hydro turf. So Im hoping its not the MPEM (I didnt want to say that word but here it goes anyways).

I am hoping its the battery, the battery is acting weird on me, like I mentioned even after 3 hours it shows completely drained (on the marine portable charging system form Walmart.) Mind you I just got this new battery from Sams Club 2 months ago.

It could also be the starter (hopefully), the mechanic told me last year I needed one, so he put in a new one. Anyways, I have been looking through the shop manual and the boats manual.. but... WHERE IS THE STARTER ?? lol.. in case I need to replace it?

Hopefully someone can help me out here thanks...

You cant diagnose anything until you know 100% the battery is fully charged and good. Sounds like it is still drained. It takes much longer than 3 hours to charge a dead battery.

Wow you guys are right! what a relieve! Man I went this morning, I see the led light lever just a little green (like if its 6% charged), and voila! it turns over. I was really worried.

I threw some starter fluid in the holes, and it finally started "But it did not stay on"?

Maybe I didnt put back the carbs back right? Now it feels like its starving for fuel, however, I engaged the throttle and I did notice that when I applied the throttle while trying to start it, like it "wants" to start? I did put the fuel selector valve back to on.

Thanks by the ways...

It may just be the case that your fuel lines need primed. With the carbs being off, fuel lines being disconnected..you have lots of air in the lines. It will take a little cranking of the starter before you get fuel running through.

That is not to say that you may have a line or two crossed up. Make sure you have your pulse line hooked up as well.

You really should spray some XPS lube or similar down the plugs holes while you are doing all this cranking without fuel/oil mix running through. I also repeat spraying lube in the cylinders after X amount of time/failed attempts.

Also, to help keep your mind worrying about the worst case scenario just yet...I don't hear anything out of the ordinary from you after taking the carbs off and having a dead battery. You fired after starter fluid...so all it sounds like is that you have to get the fuel running through.

I have some Sea Doo Bombardier Lube Spray I will spray that down the holes, your right, you mean no oil in the engine? Ok, thats to make sure some oil is in there... so not to harm it.. will do..

Ok, Im going to do that right now...

GREAT NEWS!!

Wow after all this, I recharged the battery some more, I threw some Bombardier Storage Oil down the Holes, turned it over without the plugs in it.

Put the plugs back in it, and voila! started right up, turned it off for a couple of minutes, Voila! Started right up again, wow this is the first time my boat doesnt have to "struggle" to turn on? Wow that feels Good!

Now my boat does sound like its "idling" high now? Is it because I did something? or is this normal! By the way I love this forum, thanks so much for helping me, I was really worried there for a minute...

Also a lot of smoke came out the holes when I removed the spark plugs again, I want to recharge my battery the whole day today, here are some pictures, is this normal, I mean a lot of smoke!

You can't really adjust idle on the trailer.
Once you water test again before you push off make adjustments at the dock.
As long as you put the LS at 1.25(iirc) turns out and HS at zero its your idle screw that needs to adjusted next.

Ok, now where is the idle adjustment, is it the screw that is right next to the "throttle" cable? sorry even though I cleaned my carbs, im still a noob

glad to hear you got her running

Thanks, you made me feel a whole lot better last night! Im glad I got her running!

What about the smoke?

Yep the screw is the one with a spring on the plate the screw pushes down to open the butterfly.

Thanks ocod, I cant believe I finally did it! I cleaned my own carbs, installed my shift reverse cable, and installed my own upholstery. I saved a lot of money!

Thanks for believing in me, you believing in me, helped me believe in myself!

Thanks everyone, now, its on to the next couple of projects, my wear rings and impeller (got to look at them)... My 3 gauges that are coming in (multi gauge, and speedometer)...

Anything else you guys think I should do? lol

I have the same problem.... I sprayed carb cleaner in the air intake system and now I all get is a thud. I sprayed the cleaner in prior to rebuilding the carbs. Replaced the starter and the battery is charged 100%... I hope nothing broke inside the motor???

Bad News.... Motor blown, Hard to beleive using carb cleanerin the air intake would chip the oil intake holes behind the carb.
