ok so im thinking i wanna ride at night. i see all these boats on my lake at night and i wanna be out there havin fun too... theres no lights on my ski... i wanna add a front headlight and rear tail lights. theres plenty of room inside the front and rear of the hull to add lights from the inside. will the charging system handle the added draw for lights?
im gonna make a contoured waterproof light capsule for the front light and squared for the rears but for the rear im gonna add a switch to the throttle lever on the carbs so when you let off the throttle it will activate the switch and make it like theres brake lights lightin up.... i know theres no brakes but i think it would look cool and be different...
any ideas ? input ?

I would first check your state laws regarding PWC's , most do not allow nighttime riding for pwc's under 13 ft long..

i live on a private lake. that may or may not apply to me but i will check just to be sure. i know we dont have to register our boats, jetskis or our snowmobiles. one way or another im gonna do it. just to be different.

need to retrofit a headlight like this onto the front end. Would look slick if done right.

LEDs for tailights and other marker lights won't be a large power drain on the charging system.

Putting a pair of 55w halogens on the charging loop might be a different story.

well this is gonna be my winter project and im in no hurry to just slap it all together. i was thinking of adding a seperate charging system all together by adding a small pully to the shaft just behind the pto and a small alternator and a voltage regulator because im thinking about taking this a step further now. ok think about this.... section out 2 long pieces of the bottom of the hull and replace them with 1/2" thick clear plexiglass and attach 2 neon glow tubes to it inside... that would look so cool with the water glowing under it at night... only downside would be running it into shore and scratching the plexiglass over time.. again this is a project in the works so im gonna be taking my time and doing some serious mods.. this WILL be different and hopefully be cool. im sure someone had to have done something like this before or at least attempted it..
i have all sorts of resources at work like a machine shop and we do all sorts of water studies where we have to take plexiglass and have waterproof viewing rooms where we run 100000's of gallons of water through it and it cant leak. we have vacuum forming ovens to shape the plexiglass so thats not a problem either . alll sorts of electronic monitors so we have an electronics geek working there to help with that too.. think i have this pretty well covered..

ok so i got the time this weekend to do the headlight cutout on the front of the hull. picture 1 is the design drawn on the hull in sharpi marker. pic 2 is the metal template in place to use as a routering edge and finally pic 3 is the final cut out of the shape. i will use the piece of the hull that i cut out to vacuum form a piece of clear acrylic to make the headlight lense. im gonna have a polished aluminum bezel about an inch wide to go around the hole and trim out the light and also a piece of 1/8" steel on the inside to screw it to and also give it strength and there will be gaskets on the inside and outside to make it watertight. then i will just have to build an acrylic box on the inside and line it with reflective tape, make a bulb socket and run my wires and then its off to work on the tail lights
