GTX RFI rectifier troubles

My "Low-Voltage" warning has been flashing for a while. I finally picked up a used rectifer. Installed it, the warning light did not come on at first, but after only one minute or so the warning is back on and will not cut off. Battery voltage at 5500 rpms spikes above 15, I even got a 16.6 reading momentarily.

Is there another component that can cause my rectifiers to fail quickly, or did I just buy a bum one off ebay?

Hello,

I have a similar problem and did not want to open a new thread. I have a 1998 GTX RFI.

I got the 12V low warning and decided to install a brand new rectifier. That did not solve the problem at all. I get the same 12V low warning. I checked the voltage with a multimeter and it seems to be fine. I get over 14V -if I remember right- when the engine is around 5000RPM.

The weird thing is, even though I get the 12V low warning, the engine starts right up half of the time! The other half it can be kind of slow to start, but it has never not started. I hooked the battery up to a simple 1.5A trickle charger and it started charging, but there is no way to tell how empty the battery was. I checked back 3h later and the trickle charger already showed charged.

Any ideas?

Voltage issue

I picked up this ski in need of a new top end because of an apparent oil pump failure. Installed new top end, it started and ran fine for about 20 minutes, then started getting low voltage warning. Purchased a used rectifier from ebay, installed it and still low voltage warning. I should add that the battery was brand new at the time of the new top end, it has less than one hour of ride time and one month in the garage on it. At no time did it ever hesitate to start, the battery tests out at 12.6 volts when the ski is off. When its running however I get 11.4 at idle and as high as 16.6 when I rev it up. This is exactly what a bad rectifier is supposed to do,,, right?

Anyway... I am sending the rectifier back for a refund and purchasing the HD unit from Seadoosource, we'll see what happens.

Stator

I haven't had any time with the ski this week, perhaps this weekend. I'll test the magneto/stator output if I get a chance.
