I have a 98 GTX RFI that since the last oh 6 years has been having a consistent problem. Normally on the first run of the day I can take it out and it will get itself up to 6800rpm and run nicely, then out of no where it will just lose power, go all the way down to idle, flash "MAINT", and won't let you throttle it. You can wait until MAINT stops flashing and it will let you throttle it, but usually I will open it up and it will go back into limp mode.
Now, I have kept my RAVE valves cleaned, and I think I probably clean them more than anyone I know, but it doesn't seem to remedy it. Just yesterday I cleaned them, replace my spark plugs, and put it back in only to have it not even want to go out of limp mode.
My understanding is the RAVE valves shouldn't even really be opened by the solenoid until around 4500 RPMs or so, so is this even my problem if it just doesn't want to go, or is what happening the MPEM is seeing the problem and forcing me in limp mode?
I am hoping some hive mind activity can help me diagnose this issue. I guess I will remove all the pressure lines and make sure nothing is restricting it. But I am guess I need to be looking maybe the fuel delivery system?
