Everything was working as normal until this weekend. As soon as we put the DESS key on the post, the ski starts. Only way to shut it down is to pull the DESS key. Start/stop button serves no purpose. Any ideas? It is a 2003 GTX 4-tec Supercharged

Like it’s stuck depressed? It doesn’t run the starter constant when this happens. And now it’s back to normal.

Ran normal all weekend without a problem. Not sure what to do at this point. Seems to be an intermittent issue.

Sounds like the Start/Stop button (normally OPEN switch) is on the OUTS....it's just a reed switch and they get buggered up over time....might work fine, then be stuck closed so DESS then becomes the Start as the S/S is already connected.

We ran it all afternoon like that when this first happened. I was kind of concerned that it may damage starter, but it seems to not continuously run the starter.

follow the wires from the switch and you will see a connector , take apart use a ohm meter , on to pins , should be open , push hold button it should complete circuit (ohm meter beeps)

Paid a shop a truck lid of money in Portland to diagnose and repair. ($2300). Ran for a little and ended up with all these problems. Shop claims they replaces the DESS post. Was thinking before I go and replace the ECU, I’m going to replace the start/stop switch again. When I got into the front wiring harness I got to looking at the DESS wires. They looked original- still twisted together and all. So I ordered up a new post and replaced it tonight. I did replace the start/stop switch first with no victory there. All 3 keys work, fires right up. I don’t know where a person finds an honest shop these days, but I can’t recommend the one I used. When I removed the old post, it was very worn looking and not brand new looking like I’d expect. Thanks for everyone’s pointers and suggestions. For less than $100 it seems cured- pretty sure I got taken by the dealer doing unnecessary work.
