I am trying to remove the steering column shroud from a 97 GS and can't figure out how to get the bottom section free. The choke cable runs though it. Do I have to remove the end from the carb and draw the cable up through it or is there a way to release the knob end without removing the cable?? Appreciate any help.

theres two screws hiding under the button holder and throttle lever. loosen the set screw and pull them outwards to expose them.

I already have those released and have the Dess removed but the choke cable also runs through one of the openings. I removed the nut from the back of the choke assembly but cannot get it to release. The only thing I can figure is to release the choke cable from the carb and pull the cable all the way out.

Yep, you got it, loosen the two set screws on the carb. butterflies, the cable retaining screw and remove it as an assembly.

Thanks Minnetonka4me and LouDoo (Looks like a Kentucky Wildcat sweatshirt you're wearing in your photo. I'm a true blue UK fan myself. Spent my youth in Morehead.). I was afraid of that. I was hoping there was an easier way. Guess not.
