I just finished installing the engines on my 98 sportster 1800 but in the removal process I snapped one of the bolts that connects a ground cable to both engines from the magneto covers. Is it necessary to reconnect that ground cable, it just connects both engines together.

No choice ha? the funny thing is that, it's the left engine bolt that snapped on the magneto cover, I'll probably have to use a longer cable to connect it to the manifold, or could there be another location.

You need to connect to a good point that will produce a ground. It doesn't matter as long as it is in a case bolt that has a good clean connection. That ground wire is an important source of keeping the electrical circuit. Bad ground or no ground= no fire.

hit up an auto parts store, and they got, already made, ground cable w/ post-ring attached, from lengths, a foot to 5ft....use one of those, and there only 6 buks.
