well went to put boat in neutral 2day from forward and the shifter broke off. feel like reverse drive part in the back dont want to go back down well someone broke the right one off and the left one is still there. before throttle cables use to be loose and easy to move now they are very hard to move. any suggestions or know where i can buy a new selector and 2 throttle levers and what i should do

Did the shifter actually break or just the cable? Im confused, you are talking about shifter breaking and then throttle cables at the same time...so which is it?

well i had it in forward and when i went to put it back to neutral it wouldnt go, it had worked perfectly right before then when i had put it in the water i went to pick up my family then backed up took off and went to stop for some1 having boat trouble and it wouldnt go back into neutral it was really tight and the gate for reverse in back wouldnt go back down. because the knob that you pull to put it in neutral wouldnt go up it broke off and when i was trying to use the throttle to control how fast i got to shore to trailer it they were very hard to push up or down when the left one usually will fall back to idle if its at half throttle if its at full throttle it stays there since there's no pressure against it. the right reverse gate on the propulsion system was broke when i bought it and just the left one is there the guy i bought it from lent it to his friend for a weekend and when he got it back his friend who wanted to do a 180 with it to show off what they can do,this is how he broke it off, while its still going forward the friend throws it to idle and at the same time throws it into reverse and floors it which caused the right gate to brake off completely. all thats left is a part of the bracket it use to be attached to and some of the cable that hooked up to it. once i got home i had to pull the cable back out and push down on the left gate to make the shifter go back to neutral now its in neutral but still hard to move and throttles are still hard to move also. hopefully you can understand what i typed here

just the shifter lever on top that you use to push forward or back the rest of the cable is still attached to the back.

well i found out what made my shifter assembly go bad i guess the previous owner used it in salt water alot and its made the shifter and throttles very hard to move. any suggestions on what i can do to keep using the current 1 or if its bad from saltwater should it just be replaced? it broke off the actual forward reverse selector but i wondered if lubricating it might help to save it.

I would start looking for a new one. Once the corrossion starts from the salt, its pretty much shot. The salt will actually eat away the metal sometimes.

i just got a 97 challenger single engine 787. When i got it home, my shifter including f/n/r throttle, and vts was very tight. I went ahead and sprayed crc 656 on the cables in the back of the boat, i would put them forward, spray, reverse, spray and so on. But i also sprayed the white housing where they actually move back and forth. It helped soo much, that mine feel like brand new again. When i first brought the boat home, i could barely move them. I would try lubing them up with either crc or try penetrating oil and let it sit for a bit, and try working it back and forth.
you would be surprised at what a little lubricant can do.

ok thanks ill try that when i get home from work 2day. mine had started to wrk fine again and now when i move my throttles forward it pushes up against the f/n/r to where there it rubs against the left side of the casing. im wondering if one of the springs or a little piece of plastic has broken off inside the assembly.
