Hello all,

for some reason the gas shock of my upper storage cover got disconnected and although I tried, I simply can't figure out how to reattach it. It is still connected to the shock support at the bottom but I can't get it connected at the top.

Enclosed some pictures of what it looks like, anyone who can guide me through the process of getting it back together step by step?

Thanks
Pat

It's actually quite a bit of a pain in the a$$. I'm dealing with this same issue myself. To reinstall the strut you have to completely remove it and use a small ratchet strap to compress it about 2 inches. Then you just pop it back on the ball mount on both sides. That said, usually when it comes off like this it damages the clip on the side it came off. I haven't been able to locate anywhere that sells these clips separate. Also, on my 08 the lower bracket was mounted too far to one side and needed to be relocated. I'm not sure if that's an issue still for your year. I've been fighting with this issue since I bought it and don't have a concrete fix yet. Every time I think I have it, it decides to prove me wrong and piss me off.

Hi,

thanks. Since it is still attached at the bottom of the shock support, would it also be possible to compress it while still attached there? If so, and sorry for being a technical dummy, I can't see how I should attach the ratchet strap to compress it. Any chance you could send me a picture of that?

Thanks

I have read many posts about removing the bracket and moving it to the left.

Most dealers do it no charge if you buy the shock.

I can have it fixed at a repair shop this Friday but since the weather is so nice I would like to give it a try myself so I can take her out on the water. I know it will do fine without the shock working properly but the rubber cover ring is also kind of split in two so am afraid water will come in, like it has already done.

I have been unsuccessful at compressing it while attached. I will get out in the garage later in the day and take a picture of how to strap it and compress it for ya.

Don't lose and riding time over this issue. I've been riding without one on and off and never got water in the front compartment. At least not any more than usual.
