I then hear a knock, like I don't have enough battery power and it wont turn over. Is it that my starter is getting over heated? It seems if I go back 20 mins later It will turn over 1 or 2 times before it stops again.

xp 97

Thanks

Are you sure the battery is O.K.? I would take it to an auto parts store and have a load test on the battery. Also check the cable for corrosion, if they "crunch" the cables are probably corroded. Check the terminals for corrosion, clean and apply dielectric grease.

If everything checks out, jump accross the solenoid, if it turns over its the solenoid.

I'm thinking your battery is weak.

Thanks lou, battery reads 12.6 so it is fully charged. Could it still be weak though? I will check your other suggestions.

Thanks

The battery is dead. Just because you can get a static voltage of 12.6v... that doesn't mean a thing. I bet if you put a meter on it, while cranking... it's going to drop into the 8v mark.

I have the same issue. I even tried my car battery which i know works fine and it just turns over once and then beeps and shuts all electronics down. I pull off the key and put it on again and it comes back on but will not turn over more than once before it shuts down again.

Just to cover all the basis. Pull your plugs (ground the wires) and see if it will turn over without backpressure. Could be Hydro locked, though I doubt it. Most likely the battery is done as said before.

If you are using jumper cables, there is too much loss, and the dead battery will "sink" the good battery. That's not a valid test.

Coincidentally I just resealed my pump with weatherstripping and it must have been too thick because my engine would only turn over twice like you are saying. So, not sure if you just resealed pump but I took out weather stripping and used ultra black instead and now turns over fine...

How are you resealing the pump????
