I noticed on my friends 95 Speedster that he has a fuel shutoff valve mounted below the throttle controls.

My manual shows a similiar control for the 2003 Sportster. However, on my actual boat there is no fuel shutoff valve, nor could I find one looking around.

Is my boat not equipped with one? Is it not necessary?

It looks like your boat doesn't have a fuel valve, I guess SeaDoo thinks guys with boats are smarter than guys on ski's and know when to stop for gas.

Haha.. I thought the valve was to prevent fuel from going to the carbs when not running or when trailering.

It looks like my boat never had a shutoff valve, just a smooth area where the valve 'should' be.

I know that a fuel shut off on ski's is a Coast Guard requirement, I've owned several boats (not SeaDoo's) and I don't think any of them came with a fuel shut off valve, so I guess it's not required.

That's odd. My 2001 Sportster LE has the shut off valve just below the throttle control. I thought the 2001 - 2004 were basically the same boat. Since the fuel tank is higher then the engine, my understanding is, this prevented fuel from being siphoned into the carb when not running. It is also used to control the use of the reserve fuel feature built into the fuel gauge baffle.
