Fuel line change out

Noticed that I still have one grey tempo line on the feed side of the fuel separator. The rest of the lines are clear hose.

I will replace this line with 1/4" black fuel hose from auto parts store. Question is without draining tank is it possible to reroute the hose where they are ? It appears to go under the tank and around to the other side.

This can totally be done without draining tank. Highly suggest PCV hose from amazon. Was not happy with auto parts store by the foot, as that hose hardened within a years time. Do NOT use clear or translucent line for fuel. Theres no reinforcement to prevent kinking. But if there appears to be a line that goes under, (i am not fsmiliar with rhat model) just secure a heavy line on one end of the hose with duct tape before pulling it through, then use that line to pull new hose back through. Be sure to rebuild the carb with OEM kits as well, as the filter inside will likely be clogged due to inner walls of fuel line disintegrating. ..
 
PCV hose is the same as fuel line as long as you are buying from a name brand. I use gates standard auto fuel line and have never had an issue. It is rated Fuel/PVC/EEC and available and almost any auto parts store. In addition it is E85 rated.

Yes... sorry... should have said name brand PCV braided hose... have been pretty happy with AC Delco from Amazon. Whatever crap hose they are selling at AdvanceAuto is the stuff that got brittle within a year....
 
I agree, in my opinion Advanced and Pep Boys are like the Harbor Freight of parts stores. I can see the cheap bulk hose being an issue from them.
 
Not sure why the previous owner changed most of the lines but left the feed line to the separator with the grey stuff.

Rest of the ski has clear hoses. All of those are in good condition.

I put the uscg stuff on my boat with a built in tank. Not an easy access area so top of the line fuel line was a no brainer. No question about it. I will replace the grey line with black hose but is it nesassary to swap out the clear stuff ?

Absolutely yes. The clear stuff has no reinforcement (braiding) and prone to collapsing/kinking when the engine is guzzling down gas at high rpm, which starves the engine of fuel and BOOM.... bye bye engine from lean seizure....

Yes, but you will KNOW the fuel system up to the carb is solid and will not be the source of lean seaizures.... just make sure to use new stainless worm clamps and check the check valves... I buy the by the bag of Ss worm clamps from home Depot in the plumbing section. ... inexpensive
 
It typically takes about 20' per ski, depending on the model.

Some clear or translucent line is ok, but just not as durable. Most of them get brittle and discolor quickly. I've got some translucent blue line from fuel-line.com and it's holding up well. I just didn't want regular black lines in a heavily modded ski.

You can also get a few different colors of braided automotive fuel line from McMaster Carr online. I have some blue line I got from there but haven't used yet.

On any stock ski I still use the black automotive fuel line.
 
I will see how the clear stuff holds up as it does look good in the ski. And can see the fuel which is nice.

Everything up to the selector and to the filter will be automotive black fuel hose. A little anxious to get off work and check the filter.

This ski was purchased for $800. Runs great but hasn't been water tested. Every little thing I'm finding is something I've read on the forum as to change over for preventive. Hoping this stuff was caught early and my cheap winter project is an inexpensive reliable ski for years to come.
 
I'd just watch it carefully. If a PO put the lines in who knows if it's even rated for fuel.

I go through the entire fuel system on any ski new to me before even riding.

The line I get from amazon is around $18 for 25'.
 
Can you post the link, or the brand name ? On my ski, the lines are not fun to get to and I do not want to do this ever again.

Looks like all of the lines from the tank are Tempo.

Good news is, they are all still tight on the hose bibs and the fuel strainer while it had sediment in it, the screen was clean.

Seriously my man, replace the clear lines if you don't ever want to do this project again. Having clear lines isn't going to help anything at all, and the whole project should take an hour max. Being in the garage for as long as possible gets you out of other household chores as well.

Where is this? I have never seen it. I have seen the clear braided there, but certainly not Tygon or fuel rated. mainly used for like refridgerators or washing machines. Alright im done talking about this, most people say to replace it, but do what you want to do :)
 
I ordered the roll with 25' !

Project list for winter :)
Change fuel and oil injection line
replace vts (found one used on eBay for $60).
Replace oil filter.
New spark plugs.
Change pump oil.

Wow yeah I'd never use that. It says when you click the description for uses the recommended use for this is water supply. It says it is gas resistant, but idk if that means inner wall or outer. I certainly wouldn't risk it. Also says minimum working temp is 33 degrees so don't leave your Doo out in the winter, bet it could crack. Just my 2 cents
 
Guys I use it and it works fine. If you want to try it be my guest. If not,then don't.
You could also over analyze the crap out of it.
They have other types as well, I just clicked on the first one I saw...my bad.
