Fuel Filter HELP!!

I have a 2003 rxdi that i reluctantly dropped off at seadoo because of a limited rpm issue. As it turns out the fuel filter needs to be replaced for a total cost of $450!! Even worse the "part" is on back order. The part is a hose assembly ($140 part), basically it is the fuel filter with a hose attached on either end.

I am considering getting the ski back from them and just cutting the bad filter out of the line since it isn't replaceable and putting in a regular in line fuel filter in its place with proper hose clamps of course.

Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated!! Good idea, bad idea? Would any high pressure inline filter that fits on the hose probably work?

If the filter is actually the problem... then yes... get it back, and do the work yourself.

Since it's a Di engine... you can't use a regular "inline" filter. You will need to be able to hold 60 PSI or more. But, you could probably make a metal body filter work... or find an on-line dealer with better parts prices, and get it cheaper than your local dealer will sell it to you.


With that said... unless you have been feeding it crap... the fuel pump is normally the problem. They will start to loose pressure as they age.

part 21 is what the dealer says i need, that is the inline filter attached to the two hoses. supposedly there is a filter attached to the pump assembly as well but of course that is sold as the whole pump unit assemble and considered not a replaceable filter...

after looking at the schematic of a 2001 DI I saw that the filter is a separate part attached inline with 2 clamps on either end. I was wondering if I could use that system? A seadoo tech i spoke with seems to think they must have gone to the different system in 2003(hose attached to filter) due to some sort of issue being that it is a high pressure system...

I have disassembled and replaced a few pumps, not hard to adapt the line, but many
models are a different line connector. I had a few pumps made with 1/4" hose to meet or exceed
specs for the direct injection systems. DI's require a regulated pressure of 107 lbs
psi. Hope this helps. Bill

bills86e- do you know for a fact that the DI uses 1/4'' fuel lines, id look but the ski is still at the shop? i finally found a filter that looks like it should work but im wondering what type or style of hose connecters to use that will be able to handle the 107psi? barbed or....?? I know I will need the high pressure hose clamps.

The ones I have personally did, as the link shows for your ski. Mfgs & models vary
in actual pump connection. I use stainless screw clamps because of the DI's
extreme pressure. Bill

On the pic, 3/8" NPT (national pipe thread). It should work. You should be able to find 3/8" npt x 1/4" Barb at home depot. WATTS makes them in brass too.

Seadoo uses the metric system = MM. 6mm = 1/4", 8mm = 5/16".

ok thanks, I ordered the filter and will buy the other parts locally. As far as the hose that is attached to the fuel rail goes, do i NEED the special tool for this connection or is there a way around using the tool? Also is the tool needed just to take it off or to put it back on as well. Like I said, the ski is with seadoo now, so id like them to give it back to me with the hose off so I can make my mods, just wondering how I would get the hose back on.

You only need the tool to disconnect the fitting. When reconnecting they just push together no tool required.

well i installed the new high pressure fuel filter and the ski runs great!
