Hey Guys,

I started a thread on opinions on changing to a primer system, I figured I would start a new thread as I found out what the problem is, my Black Rave caps are melted on both jugs of the engine that was so hard to start. As soon as I changed them out (the black caps) it starts like a dream.

This is the third time I've replaced these black caps, any idea as to why I keep melting them?

Should of stayed witht he GTI :)
Its always something with the 787. I love my simple 717 ......

copied form another site.

The main cause to melting rave caps is Rave valve housing wear. If the valve/blade guide hole it the housing measure over .400" it's time to buy new ones. Also upgrade to the new green o-rings and rave valve caps. The new caps are made from glass filled nylon (6/6 nylon) These new caps will take much more heat with out melting. Also look at any wear on the valve/blade shaft itself. If its got a noticeable groove it might also need to be replaced.

Cool thanks ocod! Ironically thats the only part that I haven't replaced . Thanks for posting the wear spec too!! I'll just order up the 4 of the housings and 4 rebuild kits and be done with it. I'm just right stoked that I found out why this damn thing was so hard to start!!

BTW still got the GTI!! Its the wifeys ski now she just loves it! I just bought a lift for it this past weekend so it ain't goin anywhere!!

yep NP.
I thought I read it was going to sold in the family but the wifey did think it was to good to give up....
Its a good feeling to find/fix a simple thing from being a huge and expensive problem....

Yah her uncle still wants it, I did tell him that when I do sell I'll offer it to him first. Personally I would prefer a faster ski, but she likes cruisin' around the lake in the buick (to quote seadoolou).

thanks again!

nah keep it for sure.

yep I have one of those buicks and they sure drive like one....
