I am looking into buying a used 1800 Challenger and I have just heard that there was a period where the Mercury engine was actually a Chrysler Force engine. Is this true? For what years? How can I tell when looking at used boats?

I have and am selling a jet boat with a 90hp "merc" actually force / chrysler. They made alot of sportjet engines for a variety of jet boats. Most popular was the 90hp and 120hp sportjet. Don't think they put them Seadoo though. After 2000, Mercury, the real deal Mercury manufactured the engines for seadoo. Most reviews like them because of parts availability and quality, some don't. If you're Challenger is pre-2000 you'll have a Rotax engine. If it's post 2001 probably a merc, but a good merc. Mercury only bought Force in the mid '90's to eliminate the competition then close them down. Good bloody thing they did. The engines are crap!!!!
