Flushing engines while on trailer

I've been reading some threads today and one explaining how to flush the engine said to use the upper connection and make sure the engines run before and after the water is on so that water does not enter the engine from the exhaust.

My question is what can happen if water does backfill from the exhaust or if you turn the engines off befoore turning off the water?

Can it damage anything and what should you do if this does occur? I have the feeling water getting into the engine thru the exhaust may be the problem with my boat that I explained in a previous thread.

It will cause damage if you don't get the water out immediately. Pull the spark plugs and turn the engine over until you shoot most of the water out. Use Wd-40 to spray in the cyclinders to disperse any more water and crank over some more. Do this a few times until your sure you got it all out.

Thanks for the info. I have started the engines a couple time, but to do so I had to tilt the boat backwards. I'll remove the plugs this weekend and have a look.
I'm not sure if water thru the exhause is the problem, but the boat was beached in shallow water for quite a while and was getting slammed by big waves so I figured water might have got in.
It has been a couple weeks. Could my engines be toast?

Really dont know. Depends how long the waters been sitting in there. The manual says if engine is water-flooded, it must be serviced within a few hours after the event. Try and get all the water out and try to run it, you could be ok. I've heard these Rotax engines will take beating b/c there very well made. Hope everything works out for ya.

Thanks again...I'll keep my fingers crossed. I've only used it couple time and it was a gas. Hopefully the engines won't need rebuilding. The compression was 150 on each when I checked the spring, so they are in good shape.
I'll either be cruisin' or cryin' on the weekend.
