Hello, Recently i bought a 1997 Seadoo GSI. I was told it needed a new battery and a tune up because it has been sitting in storage for 2 years. Being a car guy my first instinct was to attempt to jump start the ski with my car. As i had the cables hooked up i attempted to jump start the ski just to see if the ski would turn over and work from there. The Ski turned over but now the electronic gauge went from being readable to complete none-sence of just broked digital numbers and letter and is unreadable. I did some research and learned jumping a ski with a running vehicle can fry electronics within the ski. Now my question is (assuming that my ski got fried because even after attempting to recharge the battery with a charger and reconnecting it and the guages still being completely unreadable with broken letters and numbers) Is it a simple fix or am i looking at replacing an inner computer and also with the ski sitting for two years what i should look into doing to it before i really start trying to run it.

Will it still turn over when you press the start button? Does it have spark? If so, the gauge is not a worry right now.

Welcome to the forum, we'll try and get you sorted out!

I havent been able to determine if there is spark because even with the jump there is only enough juice to show me it wants to turn over but can only get a small rotation of engine. From what ive been told, it was a perfectly functioning machine before it was stored for 2 years and the guy just didnt want to put the time and money into getting it to run again.

Pull the spark plugs and the gray rear engine cover and see if you can turn the engine over by hand before moving forward.

And yes, there is a good chance you fried the computer. That is why there is a sticker near the battery that says "Do not boost battery". But like many of us we learn the hard way.
