So I'm very new to the jet ski world, and I'm in the process of purchasing my first ski(s). I've always loved the 97 xp and I managed to find one along with a 96 gsx. I was wondering if there is anything I should look out for on either of these skis. The gsx has 90 hours on it and the guy said the xp doesn't have an hour meter...is this true?? Also, what should the compression be on these skis at this age.? They are coming on a double place trailer both with seadoo covers and I talked the guy down to 3500. Good deal?? Any and all help would be highly appreciated!!

160psi for the 787/800cc motors, but exceptable can be down into the mid/high 120'z, you just dont want, a 10% difference between the 2-cylinders.

Hrs dont mean nuthing, but compression is what you look for.

Pull up on the exhaust both ways on the xp to see if the motor mounts are broken as mine were bad when I bought my ski and many other people

rampage- thank you, im probably going to print that out when I got to look at them.
seadooya- thank you very much I was having a ton of trouble finding those numbers online lol.
Kozerxp- thank you.

we def are one big happy group here. I stuck to this site after my first post! everything I know about my Seadoo came from here. I made lots of new friends along the way as well. I have tried some other sites but there seemed to be way to much (you know what) on those sites and to much attitude.

I would stay away from the 97 XP they are known to have alot of issues... If you like the look of the 97 try finding a 98-02 xp:cheers:
