Such a pretty day yesterday , took the ski out for her first taste of water with the new motor. Wish i would have gotten some more pics but will get some of the ski next weekend. First off just idled the ski around for around 30 mins, then swapped in some new plugs and rode it varying the throttle through 50% for about 30 min. Swapped the plugs again and rode it the same varying the throttle all day. All i have to say is dang! The ski has some serious throttle response off idle. Very peppy and I like:) Ski ran pretty good all day. At around 1/4 throttle sounds like it is missing out so i think it's a bit rich down low from looking at the plugs. Need some advice though, after letting the ski sit for 30 mins or so.. It starts pretty easy but anything more than idle it just bogs down and wants to die. After a few seconds of idle and blipping the throttle it will eventually be good to go. Think it may be just that rich down low and maybe because of the 32/1 ratio I was running for the first tank. Not sure, but advice is appreciated. But once it clears up, you can go down to idle again and it runs fine from idle with no hesitation/stuttering.Thanks guys!

There is no need to idle it for 30 minutes and you do not want to keep it at one speed that long when breaking it in but it will be fine.

The missing sound at that RPM is pretty standard and just resonance in the waterbox.

It does sound like you are running rich on the bottom end and it is loading up. For premix and oil injection you only need to premix at 40:1 or 50:1 for the first tank. I would wait until you go to straight gas on the second tank and see if it gets better.

Thanks for the response , yea i idled it for a pretty long while because i wanted to make sure nothing was missing or was leaking. My ski is 100% premix so i figured the 32-1 would be optimal for the first tank. Second tank im guessing go to 40-1? Think just tighten the low speed adjusters a tad?

I thought you had the oil injection too.

You are correct at 32:1.

I would try 1/8th of a turn in on both the LS screws.

For a first run I will put it in the water with the front strapped to the trailer and truck running and check for leaks. Then if there no leaks I will start it and check again for leaks and give it a few rev's and make sure pisser is working and everything is good to go. Then take it off the trailer and out for a 1/4 throttle spin for about 5 minutes and stop on shore to check under the seat again.

Yea i had it strapped to the trailer also . Im gonna try to turn the lows before the next run. Pretty sure that is what is causing the issue off idle after letting it sit.

Please dont say that lol
Dont want to take the carbs off again, All internals in the carbs are brand new . I tested both popoff's numerous times.

I have done a lot of these carbs and even I have had it happen. Took the carbs back off and there was a little piece of nylon holding the needle open like a toothbrush bristle and to this day have no idea where it came from so it does happen. If it only does it when it sits it could be that or if the pressure relief valve is not working in the tank it could make enough pressure to flood it too.

Now when I get the carbs all back together and the hoses linking the duals together I will pressurize them together once more and make sure they hold 10 psi for a final check before they go back on the engine.

Thanks for all the advice man. Im gonna lean the low jets up a bit and see what happens . If it still does it then like you said, its pretty much guaranteed to be the NS. Ive had leaky NS, and they always caused it to be difficult to start but in this case it does start easy , just doesnt like to take off lol

Gonna have to do the "together" test from now on also. Good idea

When you rebuilt everything what else did you change? Did you switch to open flame arrestors? I can't remember and you didn't post it back in that thread and I'm in lazy mode right now so I'm not going to search for what you changed along the rebuilt. LOL, sorry if that sounds snide. Just wasn't sure if you did a re-jet at the same time. This is why I stick to my build threads, it's all in one spot when I need it, and then I put in in my sig line so I don't even have to use the "my posts" drop down at the top of the page. :D

Look at the first post, it is in my signature , but only appears sometimes
But yea racer, glad you chimed in man! Its just the buckshot head, rejet kit, and proks!
Thing has some very crisp throttle response , But the build took exactly one year to complete so its been a while lol
I really like that concord prop !

Ski also had about an inch of water in it by the time the ride was over. Gonna fill her up this weekend and see if i can pinpoint that also. Might be my sponson holes lol Oh well!

racerxxx, you think my off idle problem after sitting might be too rich of the low adjusters?

I think it's too hard to judge with it running 32:1. Personally, I would have gone right to 40:1. If you run injection it's variable so to break it in you premix. So at say idle with injection the rate is like 100:1, so 1/2 throttle would be 70ish and WFO is 40:1. So break in on injection is lean when not WFO, hence the addition of oil because you can't run it WFO yet. But if you premix, your're always at X ratio through out the rpm range. I'd finish the tank and jump right to 40:1 and then tune it. What size jets did you put in? I vaguely remember Braley telling you where to start.
