Excessive wear ring clearence on sides only...can anyone help??

Checked my jetpump (05 GTX WAKE) to find alot of wear on one side and slightly less on the other side, but with no wear top and bottom....? Looks like grey marks in teflon were the impeller was rubbing, but it seems tight on the shaft and the bearing grease is water free. Anyone run across this issue? Was told the plastic housing could have warped...?

I know from experience and 2 broken plastic housings that they do indeed flex and if it is cracked can destroy a wear ring. I replaced my 2nd and last plastic housing with an aluminum housing and the performance and speed of my GTX was noticeable and I have not had to replace a wear ring in almost 3 years.

Sweet! Did u go with seadoo OE parts or aftermarket, and did u replace the impeller as well? Mine looks mint, gonna pull the pump for a better look next week. Man this is awesome news! Iv been calling dealers, asking all kinds of ppl but no one could give me an answer! Thanks soo much.

The first time I replaced the housing I replaced the original impeller and it has held up fine through the second broken housing. I have muskrats who like to leave shells on my drive on lift and drop them in the water so I was sucking them up as I drove onto my lift therefore destroying my original impeller, wear ring and housing. The second time only my housing and wear ring was damaged. I have no idea what type of impeller was installed but you can do a search of the forum and likely come upon a recommendation.

I actually bought my aluminum housing used from some guy posting on the web who had upgraded his '04 and then took it off before selling it.

Although they cost an arm and a leg it is money well spent because you will gain speed and general performance and never need to replace a housing again.

Put a new Delrin (ie. plastic) wear ring in, note the blade clearance is the same all the way around. Then if it does this again, I'd have to wonder about the bearing in the back of the pump behind the impeller, if it's somehow letting the impeller move side to side.

Regards.

ps. I've not heard of or seen any aluminum wear rings for SeaDoo's, but I have heard of and seen stainless steel wear rings and they are seriously more expensive than the Delrin rings! Plus if your impeller is rubbing the wear ring (and it's not the wear ring's fault!) then bad things will result from putting in an expensive stainless steel wear ring! You could end up with a ruined impeller AND wear ring, since the wear ring is made of the same material as the impeller in this case. Generally the point of the wear ring is for it to take all the damage and spare the more expensive impeller.

Hey Micheal, thanks for the info but we were talking about the pump housing being aluminum not the teflon wear ring, or whatever its made of. The bearing is tight and the grease seems good with no water and i didnt hit anything to score up the wear ring. My housing is plastic and must have deformed/squished causing it to scrub (which my guy at the skidoo/seadoo dealer has heard of). The pump/impeller are supposed to be concentric so if debris went through, it would be scrubed all the way round, not on opposite sides only. Gonna check her all out when i install the new housing tho to be sure.
