The motor stalled when running. It would make a single clunk sound when trying to restart. The 1st pic shows a damaged rotary valve. The 2nd shows the pto cylinder with a small piece missing by the 3oclock area. I cant turn by hand. Do i have something in the motor??? I didnt see anything in there.

Somethings gotta be in there...

If both your pistons are in decent shape pull your exhaust Rave valves, you may find a chunk of the rave valve missing and it may have made its way to the intake damaging your rotary valve. You'll likely have to split your crankcase to free up whatever piece of debris is locking up the crank. May be easier/cheaper/less headaches to order up a reman... that intake is going to take a lot of maching to clean up.

I pulled raves and they both look fine. Im assuming since I cant turn the motor by hand that something has to be stuck in there. Anything else to try before committing myself to a long expensive repair?

Split er' open see what the problem is...

I had this problem earlier this year (which is why i responded to your post). To be honest with you .... your need a remanufactured engine. There is no way the engine will operate properly even if you free up the crank and put a new rotary plate in. But before you get on the phone with SBT I would pull the motor split the crankcase so you know what the cause is. It doesn't look to me like the little piece of piston would have caused this damage, since the pistons and rave valves are intact its either something that broke apart in the crankcase that made it to the intake or somehow a piece of debris made it through the carbs and into the intake. Either way you need to pull the motor and open it to see whats going on. Then get a rebuilt on the way ...

I know it sucks ass ... i've been there!

Thx bmann for your input. You are right that this does suck pretty bad... and opening it is prob the only way to know for sure.

That engine is toast, you can see all the damage on top of the piston, and bet whatever damaged the valve stripped or really damaged the brass gear. You can tear it all down and fix it, but easier and almost cheaper to buy a sbt engine.. :(

I did not see any missing hardware that may have fallen off. Now Im gonna try to get it out (motor). And get it open to see whats in there

The RV is damaged by something - I wanted to say the same thing, air cover screw or carb screw fell in there - that is why they are so long so they can not vibrate all the way out without hitting the flame screen. The 100 on the piston tells me it already bored to max - common for sbt, another may be the best way.

mag flywheel removal

I pulled the motor today. I want to open it to verify damege/cause. I got the big nut off the flywheel but I guess there is another tool I need to remove it. Is that nut the last thing to remove??? Do I just pry the flywheel off now???

On both ends you need a lot of pressure to get things loosened, be careful when removing the flywheel not to damage the holes and then the outer disk will seperate, the PTO could also be tight, remember these had thread sealer applied when installed and you need to do the same thing.

I too now have a sea doo with the same problem. I went to start it over the weekend and all I get is a clunk. It sounds like something has seized or is binding. No turn over. To make things worse, I went to start my other one, and it would turn over, but not start. I changed the plugs and still does not start. I am going to check the spark plug cables. If nothing, then what. Man I hate this. Although I have been lucky. This is the first real problems in 10 years.

I hope your prob is better than mine. Maybe your battery needs to be charged. If not maybe your starter is going bad. If you think its an engine prob try to look into your carbs at the rotary valve. That should turn when you manually turn the drive shaft.

Well here's my 2 cents. This exact same thing happened to me last summer. I have a 98 sporster 1800. Look here to see the pics of damaged RV etc.......http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=21275. Turns out I had lost my wrist pin bearings and they made their way into the rotary valve and had been banking up my cylinder/pistons pretty good. Ended up putting a reman from SBT. Wasn't too hard other than trying to get the fly wheel off. Works like new now though. Good luck:patriot:

Wrist pin Bearings

I had the same problem last year with one of my skis, the wrist pin bearings which are little roller type came apart and made a real mess. Rotary valve looked just like yours. I retired the ski and use it for parts! Time for a new motor!

hey ron thx for the response. I started a new thread relating to this, titled oil and vibration. If you have any input on that other thread I would greatly appreciate it.

Guess what happend to my starboard side motor this past weekend!

Yup she seized up! Feels like a bearing has seized up, no debris that i've found yet. But that's two motors this year:puke: Although these motors are banging on 12 years old and are basically just screaming pistons. I had a feelng the other one was going to go I was just hoping to get the summer out of er'
