Have a 2002 4tec bought used, Run great on trailer. Took it to the lake and after about five minutes it stop running and will not start. Will turn over but not start.

When I install the lanyard sometimes I get beeps and sometime I don't When I do get beeps it will beep two short beep and one long beep.

When I put on the lanyard there is no beeps but there is a clicking sound from the engine.

Does it have fuel in the tank?

Put the lanyard on the post and press the "set" button 5 times. After the code appears (for example P1512), press the "mode" button to see if there are additional codes.

Post your findings.

The clicking sound is normal; that's the TOPS valve.

When you put the lanyard on the DESS post, the fuel pump should run for 2 seconds; if you listen carefully, you can hear it. Can you hear your fuel pump?

The fuel pump? If you are closing the magnetic switch in the DESS post when you install the lanyard, the fuel pump should run for 2 seconds. I had a ski that didn't beep and I had no fuel level indication, but the engine would run fine. After I replaced the MPEM, everything returned to normal.

On the same ski, I lost the fuel pump driver in the ECU, so the fuel pump would not run. The fuel pump is a ground-side switched circuit; the ECU controls the ground. So to save the owner $1,100.00 for a new ECU, I installed a switched ground to the fuel pump. The switch is so you can turn the fuel pump off; you don't want to dead-head the fuel pump. The only drawback is that you will have a constant fault in the MEPM for a faulty fuel pump ground, P0341 I think.

OK
When I get the laynard to connect I get the two short beeps and one long beep.
Put my hand on the pump and get no vibration so it is not turning on.
I know it is not the fuse because the pump and starter and pump work on the same fuse and starter will turn over

Is there a way to check if there is voltage going to the pump???

Milton

No, the fuel pump and the STARTER RELAY (not the starter motor) are on the same fuse.

Yes, the MPEM supplies the power to the fuel pump. Look for 12 VDC on the purple wire (terminal A) with the pink tracer stripe. If you have 12 VDC there, connect a jumper wire from Brown wire with the pink tracer (terminal D) to battery ground. Connect the lanyard to the post. If the fuel pump comes on, the ECU driver circuit is bad.

The long beep is just a communication error with your cluster. It will run fine without it but will make this beep.

Just pull the fuel rail to see if you are getting the injectors to work when you crank it. Takes 2 minutes.

Is there a way to read the codes if the cluster gauges do not work and the engine will not turn over.
Do not get any beeps when key is put in. I do get a clicking sound

Sounds like a battery problem . What happens when you jump the solenoid?
You will need buds or other aftermarket software to read codes if you can't read the cluster.
