4 beeps, no start 2008 Challenger 180

Hi Folks, just bought a 2008 Challenger 180, nice boat. My problem is starting. 9 out of 10 times I’ll get one long beep followed by 4 short beeps, and starter will not engage. That 1 time out of ten I get proper 2 short beeps and life is good. Any thoughts ?

Could be neutral switch.
Did you do a quick search on the forum, just type 4 beeps in the box, you should get quite a few hits.

The 4 beeps is just the key reminder. The long single beep is the problem which is either connection problem or communication problem. Could be low battery, bad DESS post, wire connection problem, etc. Could be neutral safety switch but they typically either work or they don't. It will never start until you get the 2 beeps.

I cleaned the DESS post and key with methyl hydrate and scrubber pad. 2 beeps 80% of the time, I’m good with that!
