Engine runs with no key on

So I bought a GSX limited which wasn't running. Found a broken earth wire under the exhaust connecting to the engine block. Fixed that now here's my problem......

I connect the battery up, press start button display comes on, put key on post and get 2 beeps. Start the ski up with no problem. I leave it running on a hose and after a while there is a long beep but the engine keeps running this beep will sound a few times over a 5-10 minuite period but no cut out. To stop it I press the stop/start button and the engine stops. Now here's the strange bit....... once the ski has ran it can be started without the key being on the post and even pressing the button to get the display on, it will try and turn over.
Any help would be great as everything seems to be working apart from the safety cut off system? Thanks

I'm not an expert but if the key has a RF chip and it's within a certain distance, the computer will think it's connected, thus the engine will still run. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Is it an OEM MPEM or aftermarket?
Is it just overheating ?

put a magnet by the post instead of the key and try to start it. If it starts then the mpem dess is either disabled, its a non oem mpem, or someone wired in a key permanently and the post is just acting as a switch.

I will check the magnet idea tomorrow. I'm not sure if it's OEM as there was a spare DESS in the front holdal so guessing it's been changed.

Might be worth trying to wire in the old one now I've sorted the earth wire problem as they might of thought the DESS was the issue

Well the ski is up and running! Turned out the person who had it before me didn't know how to wire things up.....

Cleaned up the wiring and it now starts and stops off the key only
Hopefully taking it out tomorrow
