Picked up my 96 GTX project with the engine already out & disassembled. Discovered several pieces missing when I went to put it back together, but think I have everything now. Have the main engine bolted together up to the head. RV cover & RAVE valves are bolted on, but not the carbs or exh manifold. Mag cover is bolted up and will bolt up the oil pump (missing & bought on eBay) after a quick test.
Question is, since I didn't pull the engine, I'm not sure what can be bolted to the engine before dropping it in the hull and what has to go on after. Obviously, it would be much easier to bolt on the carbs before installing, but the manual says to pull the carbs to remove the engine, so reverse that to install. Do I install the exh manifold before installing the engine, then install the rest of the exhaust? Since the PO didn't mark the shims, I'm going to have to align the engine.
Had to rely on pictures found throughout the web to make sure all the needed parts are attached and routed properly, but some are poor quality, so it's a bit of a gamble. SO much easier when you remove something yourself and document each step with a digital camera.
Any tips to make the whole process easier?
