Engine oil question

I removed the engine from my 1997 XP. It is now back in and before I ruin it I have an oil question. The oil lines are hooked up and there is oil in the tank. Is this good enough and will the oil naturally flow into the engine or should I remove the oil supply line and put a funnel in to fill the crank case with oil?

First what oil is in your ski?
Blue, Green?

Gravity will fill the crankcase.
For the oil injection you should change the filter, little 3/32" lines and bleed the injection system.

Premix first tank 50:1. Remove plug wires from spark plug and place on grounding post. Open bleed valves. Gravity will cause the main line to fill. Crank engine a couple seconds. Once main supply line looks full place plug wires back on spark plug. With bleed screws on oil pump still open, start engine (IDLE ONLY). While idling, hold oil pump lever fully open till all air bubbles are no longer in small oil lines.

Make sure you use correct oil type.

Only do this if you premix first tank. Otherwise, follow bleeding instructions to the T.

Yes I am using the seadoo sythetic oil. I did prime the small oil lines after I replaced them. They flow just fine. I will use a 50:1 premix in the first tank. Sounds like cheap insurance. Thank you

There is no reason to premix the first tank if the lines are bled.
Also you should never run the engine with the bleed screw open.

So i went back and read my reply. You are correct, I stated with valve still open hold pump lever wide open. That should be with valve closed. (Typing and watching hurricane news got me out of context.). I still maintain premix is good idea (not a must) for first tank. It sure saved my engine as during break in, the pump fitting the supply line connects to fell out of the pump and dumped the contents of my oil tank in the hull in short order.

Absolutely premix for a new engine.

If you a just changing oil, lines or filter it’s not necessary as there’s plenty of residual oil in the crankcase.

You don’t want to run the engine with the bleed screw open because it can actually suck air into the pump.

The oil tank being higher will force oil down to the pump and with the bleed screw open let air out of the filter, lines and pump body.

Now the only thing left to purge is the little 3/32” lines from the pump to the intake.

Now is when you want to run the engine at idle. The bleed screw being closed and lever arm held wide open will let the pump build pressure pushing oil past the check valves and filling the little lines.

With the lines full the oiling system is working correctly and doesn’t require any additional oiling.

Thank you. The small lines purged just fine and oil flows.
I hooked up the large lines to the crank case and the return and all looks good.
was worried ablout the large lines to the crank case becase when I removed the motor much of it spilled. All looks good. Seadoo #1 is good to go now on to seadoo #2. Thank fully that one has been the most reliable but I am going to give it a once over as one of the small oil lines on seadoo #1 was leaking.
