My 2000 gti engine is burning too hot. Could this be a result of not getting enough oil? Thanks in advance

Over heat alarm coming on? Back flush it lately? Follow instructions on procedure. Engine ON, then water ON, Water OFF, then engine OFF. You can not let engine run long. Carbon seal on drive train will get damaged. Need kit to do procedure. Make sure all lines are clear and draining. Repair Manuals for each year are free on Internet. Use search function on line above page for minor questions. You get any water in the hull while running it?

Okay so long story short I'm gonna need a new engine but I'm trying to make mine last until this fall before getting a new engine. A crank seal is bad and I have low compression. I adjusted the oil so the engine would get less oil earlier in the year to compensate for the bad seal that's leaking oil into the engine. But now my engine is too hot to touch for more than 5 seconds and the spark plugs are bright red so I know it's too hot. Could this just be because the engine isn't getting enough oil now? I also know that all cooking systems are clear and working properly

i'd set the oil back to normal levels, and to avoid the smoke from leaking seals, pinch the line when its sitting in the garage, just don't forget to un-pinch it before riding.

You may have killed the engine completely by running it with less oil.
Set the oil pump back to the correct setting.
As already said make up a shut off valve for the rotary bath 12mm hoses.
If it is using a ton of oil while running then your seals are too bad to keep running it and it is just going to keep fouling the plugs.

I would check your carbs/fuel system and cooling system. If it is lack of oil causing it to run super hot it will just seize same with lack of fuel if you keep riding it.

A blocked cooling line, sand in the water jackets and even a worn out wear ring can cause low coolant flow and overheating.

Okay thank you. I turned the oil back up and it's cooler now but it's extremely lacking power now so I think I'm just going to turn it back down and ride it a few more times until the engine is gone

Well good luck with that. Maybe you'll get lucky and the crank will leave the cases too. It's lacking power because the engine is shot from running it lean. It's just not going to last and will cost you more money in the end. Good luck to you.

It's only got 120 psi and it's been getting worse. I have a guy that'll put a rebuilt 717 in for 1500 for everything including labor and a carb rebuild with a new bumper and foot grip pads. I'll probably post a pic when it's all said and done

1500 is a good price IMO. Make sure you put a new oil pump when doing that. Of course, being without you ride during summertime is the worse case scenario.

Benji.

I don't replace the oil pumps if the engines are running when I get them. You can test them with a drill too and it is very uncommon for them to fail on Seadoo's.

Yes we do like them. Floating forgiving couches. They needed some minor repairs and a battery when we got them. Changed fuel lines and filters. Rebuilt a carb, then replaced one, repaired casting holes on both pipes. Just replaced another battery and a stator / rectifier. Still way cheaper then if we paid full price for the pair and trailer. I like the challenge to keep them up and running!

Still sounds like a good set of skis. It's a nice challenge to keep mine running as well. My motor was in really bad shape when I bought it so I'm actually trying to put new overbored sleeves and pistons in it as well as rebuilding the entire top end and carburetor

If you ran it lean and hot like you said I wouldn't trust that crank lasting much longer, especially with a new top end.

I thought I was running it lean but I actually wasn't lol I'm finally truly starting to figure out what is what
