electrical question...

being a newbie, can this engines, guess its not an alternator, but a stator, can i wire a basic radio/cd with spkrs into the system? if so, what of the wiring harness should i connect to? i noticed that behind/underneath the steering console storage bin, against the inner wall are harness wiring plugs that i assume was just a general wiring/connecting harness for other models, using only what was needed for a specific boat model. besides, there is an acc fuse as well and another plug with a dead end connected to it that is right near the fuse block in same section that i assume maybe the accessory line(?). with a meter, it is a 12v line. but again, i think in the manual, some systems are alive with the DESS and some work with or without it being connected like bilge blower and pump. a little help with this would be great (almost ready to go!!). i saw a photo in one of the threads here with a radio and spkr(s) mounted on/in the side of the steering console... i hope i am not asking too much help. as far as a radio, i have no problem cutting out the area, but what kind of marine/boat radio housing w/cover would anyone here recommend...spkrs too. i was also thinking of a 12 lighter plug... any recommendations? love wiring and stuff.. thanks!:hurray:

Yes... you can add some electrical parts if you want. You can use the empty plug behind the steering for a radio, but if you want to install an amplifier, you will need to wire it directly to the battery.

Its really easy to add a radio and speakers. The factory electrical system (stator) can easily handle it. I am not sure on your specific model, but a lot of the boats had an option for a radio and you can find the harness somewhere and tap into it. You could also wire it yourself. Inside the front storage compartment behind the steering wheel, i bet you can find a positive and ground source. I would just tap into those. A 12 volt plug is also a nice option to have. I use mine for charging stuff or blowing up tubes.

As far as what components to use, that all comes down to personal preference and what your needs are. If you want a basic system and dont plan on upgrading later, you can find some decent stuff fairly cheap. If you want to add an amp or upgrade later, then spend the money to get something now that is capable of being upgraded. Also, stick with all marine stuff. Budget is also the biggest factor. You can do something basic for probably $150 to something nice for upwards of $2000.

EXCELLENT! found some neat complete, basic, marine audio kits at parts express... it really inexpensive and has some rather fantastic reviews. in other words... will do my fine and make our little sportster more fun!
